Official Jon Gruden Thread XVII

I look at differently. He knows the coaching search and the process. Why would he come to Knoxville and jeopardize his reputation if he really was a candidate. Yeah, his son is there, and yes, I'll get flamed, but seems to me if he were a real candidate, he would meet with agents or boosters in Nashville. Him in Knoxville is leaving the door open to a lot of Grumors! He's still my no. 1.

As a recruiter for the past 17 years let me just offer my professional assessment. ...It really isn't the fact of why he is there. It is for MNF and his son and prob going to the game and saying a few words at the bbq nothing more I am sure from his view... What it is about is how the right people can take advantage of the fact that he is here in the most appropriate discreet fashion. And if no one on that "committee" or Currie is thinking like this than shame on them

You make some valid "assessments" LM. I just have a different point of view. If someone meets with him discreetly, I just think there is a chance Butch could have a lawsuit if proven.

Yes.
If Currie or Davenport or somebody doesn’t find a way to “have a cup of coffee” in private (with no cameras or possible viewing from the public) with Jon and wife while Jon is in town, it would be a major dereliction of duty by Our Administration.....oh,f***,yeah, I know...

I would venture to say there isn't a "no communication" clause in his contract, unless that's standard practice. I bet old friends can get together and talk about many different topics! Go Gruden, Go Vols!!!

I have recruited many individuals while there was still someone in the position. Nothing illegal about that. Sometimes they already have been told it is over but it is not public. Did Tuberville sue Auburn when the Boosters met with Petrino?

If Grand Vol was a big time booster and had that kind of money to throw around, I would have already worked the board and told them I'm fronting the first three years of Gruden's salary at $7 mil a year. Once they got over the shock and agree to my proposal, I would be loading Peyton and Currie into my Gulfstream, headed to Tamp with the first three years of his $7 mil a year salary in hand (checkbook obviously) with this list:

$7 million a year, staff of choice (I would work the board to put $5.5 mil on the staff, first three years guaranteed) and control of FB operations.

Bonus schedule includes, but not limited to:

$250K for reaching the SEC CG
$500K for winning it
$500K for reaching playoffs
$500K for going to National CG
$1M for winning NCG

Additional bonus of $250K for beating Saban in his first year.

"Go ahead and say no, Jon."

I can start on Monday.

Could I ride on the Gulfstream with you? I promise not be a bother.

There will not be "official" contact by UT until Butch is fired. I don't think the athletic department is that dumb.

Companies create succession plans every year for key positions. It's nothing new. Coaching a bit different but the principle strategy is always has someone in mind as a backup to a key position.

He knows exactly what he’s doing by the way. Posting that cryptic “Go Vols” video with Travis Stephens, now walking around downtown Knoxville taking pics with fans. Oh I hear ya Johnny. I hear ya looooooud and clear.

Soon

Don't know. I just think that it is unprofessional in nature, and I don't believe this is the way Curie or Gruden operate. Another poster suggested they meet where there are no cameras. Everyone has a camera now, and they are everywhere on the streets. You would have to go to the Smokey's to get away from cameras. I would love for them to meet somehow, but it doesn't usually happen that way. If Curie is so tight lipped, I have trouble believing they would meet and have it get out.

I agree. I also think that there are more discreet ways for him to visit Knoxville. What is seen over the next 24 hours will tell us a lot.

Exactly.."Official" is after they post the position. Nothing is "official" until that happens. The highest level positions I have worked all began 2-3 months before it was "official" and posted. And since it is a state school, someone like me could def not be involved at this point but long time friends can always be great back channel messengers

This is why I think the big question here is who's box?

Don't know that either. If a booster meets with him, is it "Official"? That same booster sure can't meet with a recruit. I don't know these answers, but I am sure that Curie and Gruden know. Hey, I hope they can get together, I just don't see it.
