The media seems to believe that we are a mediocre program that thinks its at a premier level. Was it the fact that other top candidates didn't want to be 2nd choice behind Jon Gruden? Maybe.

It's because our recruiting hole is going to be extremely difficult to climb out of and the talent on the team, as a whole, is not such that the team is going to be able to win a lot of games, quickly. Plus, the competition is better overall and they can recruit just as well, if not better, at this point. Even Vandy, a doormat for a long time, has probably surpassed us in overall talent, so if you, as a coaching candidate, see that, is it going to make the Vols a prime landing spot? I don't think so, too much work to be done, and that's why I didn't think Gruden would come, even though he was my clear choice.

Hart going rogue and getting the first shot in before the Gruden thing became public is what happened. That is the reason for the sudden urgency to hire Butch Jones instead of exploring more options. Hart needs to be dealt with.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts the last few weeks. It's what I love about being a Vol , everyone and I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion. We will have to see what the future holds for football program, however life goes on. I will still be posting just not as often ...

exactly. If there indeed was this rift, it has been going on a long time. He should have been let go weeks ago. I hope Gruden was never really an option and that it wasnt as close as we heard.

Grow up....you look petty culling though everyone's posts from the last 60+ days.

If you want to be the best in the SEC and nationally you have to be committed and spend the money and get the best coach out there, see UK basketball and Bama football. They understand the formula and want to be the best. UT has shown with the last few hires in the AD that their goal is the top 50 in the country not the top 5.

I know we're all pretty upset and I don't want to rant, but...to the youngsters out there who actually bought into this, always remember one thing: there's a reason people are posting on message boards and there's a reason others are getting paid to do a job.

Not knocking any of the folks who posted what they heard. They may very well have been 100% truthful. In fact, it proves my point even further if they were. There's just a reason that kind of stuff doesn't get reported.

As others have said on here, it was a fun ride on this thread for weeks to watch and just recently to post on as it was entertaining to no end, regardless of the outcome. And like many others, I can now probably get caught up on my workload as well, this was a bizarre trip to say the least. Hopefully this all works out for the best for UT, its players, and even the fanbase....guess we'll see.

On the bright side, we can post on the board without crashing now... not as much excitement for Butch... at least not from what I have seen... Still, I wish we had hired GRUDEN!!! :twocents:
