That’s what I was thinking. So Haslam got to him before Davenport could sign off or Currie changed his mind and didn’t sign. This would explain a potential mou that has been discussed

I don't think Currie ever intended to execute. I think it was a charade to throw the other boosters off the scent.

I don't think it was anything that blatant, Eze.

I do believe Currie was honestly out there interviewing Mike Leach, in a last-gasp effort to save his job by bringing a coach home.

I do think Bev was insinuating that Currie didn't love Tennessee enough, but that his lack of commitment was more subtle than that: that by not truly being a Volunteer in his bones, he didn't understand the caliber of coach he should be out there looking for. He seems to have thought we were just another Kansas State level power 5 program. Never truly realized that he was the AD of a college football blue blood. So never swung for the fences as he should have.

I think that's what Bev meant in her subtle dig at Currie's commitment.

He had to do something blatant the for them to be going down the "for cause" route, though. Those are hard cases to win.

Exactly what I was thinking,
Get the opposing boosters dewey eyed and content, while he helps Haslam with the bait and switch.
A travesty

Good morning Vol faithful. I haven't slept that well in over a decade!
Do you all smell that glorious smell? It's what it smells like when a sleeping giant awakens from a 10+ year nap... Go Vols!
First thing that giant needs to do is take a long shower and wash off the stench of mediocrity. Then he should put on his Sunday's finest and go out and reintroduce himself to excellence.

Because Haslam didn’t want a strong, independent coach who would be supported by the fan base who he (Haslam) tried to handcuff him (the coach.)

Have you ever had an employer or manager who would only hire weak co-workers? Makes for a miserable life.

Not trying to be difficult but only trying to understand.....my understanding was that the (what is now Fulmer group of Thornton, Ergen, Anderson) all were preparided to pull their support if Haslam did not fall in line early on with the Gruden plan. My understanding was that it never came to that and that everyone fell in line with the Gruden plan.

If that is the case then why would Currie / Haslam reverse the plan later.....just doesn’t add up.

Trust me guys, I am just trying to figure out if Gruden is at least possible. To me and my wife, he makes the most sense to get this program reversed and back on top in a matter of hours. This would blow the lid off “Champioship Saturday” and would make the national pundits blow their minds.....

After working all night and finally catching up on this thread I’ve come to the conclusion that this isn’t a thread but a wonderful community of like minded individuals waiting for the white whale to arrive!

Soon

Yep, that's it, brother. Had the same epiphany myself after spending a day or two reading and learning. It's a world apart within VN.com. and quite probably the BEST part of VN.com. Great folks here, wonderful community.

What

A

Wild

Ride

It

Has

Been!

Having read every single post in every single thread on 2 separate occasions, all I can say is that it finally feels like we are about to see the station and last stop on this train!

Prepare to deboard.

What a freaking ride! The ending never would have felt so good without the long tiresome and winding trip to get here, something all of us will remember and make it even sweeter come next season, and beyond.

I would say, not likely

I would say you are absolutely wrong.

First phone call!

Yeah, you're dead wrong on this one, Hammer.

Phil has to bring Gruden in, or force him to say no. Phil knows that. Listen to how many times he and Bev acknowledge the role of the Vol Nation fan base in yesterday's press conference. He absolutely knows that expectation management is a big part of this search now.

And expectation management starts with showing the fan base that you understand their interest in Gruden.

So he has to make the attempt, and be seen doing so.

It's as plain as day.

Once the contract is signed, the other boosters aren't concerned anymore, they think it's finished (that fat cat saved the little orange fish). Everyone just waits for the announcement. In the meantime, Haslam and Currie go off and get schiano.

I get that it doesn't make sense, but absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Update.

I am hearing that negotiations between Doyle and the Miami Hurricanes have hit a snag. Many in the know have speculated that yesterday's leaks of these negotiations forced UT's hand to make a move and make a move they did by ousting Currie in favor of one Philip Fulmer. I am told that the move certainly caught Doyle's attention and has made him pause in making a move from the Vols. Late last night Doyle released a statement addressing the Fulmer hiring.

"I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see Tennessee make a move to indicate they are seriously striving to get the football program back to where they belong. I believe they could not have selected a better man for that job than Phil Fulmer."

Strictly speculation- Though nothing has been decided and these situations are very fluid, I think things are looking extremely positive on the Vols/Doyle front. So much so I feel like things may have swung back to Doyle favoring the Vols.
More updates as things happen.

Help me understand why Currie never executed it.....

It defies logic, doesn’t it?

Haslam is a classic narcissist. He played along with the boosters for a while, but ultimately his narcissism was his Achilles heel. If you haven’t spent time with a narcissist, it’s hard to grasp. I have. The level of destruction, completely illogical to rational people, is astounding.

And we thank you, Sara and all of volnation for your efforts. I truly believe these actions have brought about positive change.
Thank you

You are most welcome!!

The fact of the matter is VolNation has stood up to money and corruption. This is something the ESPN, SEC channel cannot wrap their heads around. It's much easier to say that we are crazy and we are making TN the laughing stock of the entire country rather than go out on a limb and get right down to the root of the problem.

VolNation is awesome and we demand an excellent product. Gruden Soon!
