We didn't. Or, if we did, it was merely due diligence to show we are trying to woo as many big names as we can to pacify the fans.

Here's the thing...

Any AD worth their salt would be delinquent if they did not take a look at Kelly when a coaching search came up. Doesn't mean they pursue him, but I'd be willing to bet someone from UT did their due diligence in looking him over as a "what if" scenario.

Not a Western....but why oh why did steve Martin feel the need to redo the Pink Panther? Now THAT was messimg with a classic.

While Martin's version certainly cheapened up the classic Panthers I still laugh to this day thinking about the scene where he's trying to say cheeseburger. I thought the new True Grit sucked. Looked cool, but sucked.

I just glanced at a Mullen thread. They are working so hard to feel like his “success” at MS State will translate to a better than Butch type performance.
🤢🤮

Good afternoon ladies and gents. Just checking in to the “keep hope alive” thread extravaganza. Don’t expect anything of substance till post Vandy but still optimistic. Better days ahead!

I’m sure he was the back up plan. Him, and Gruden are the 2 “home rum” hires.

Whenever I want to be inspired or someone says they are worried about Gruden being out of coaching for so long, I read this article. This man is a maniac, and its because his obsession of football.

Its been posted before and several have seen, but if you have the time, read this article. Its one of my favorites about the passion of this man.

If he brings this passion and surrounds himself with coaches that have the same passion, I will guarantee you every dollar in my bank account that UT will be back on the map and feared again.

Mullen has a good thing in Starkville. He knows it, they know it. He's the second coming of Jackie Sherrill or something down there. He. Ain't Leaving.

I do think we are constitutionally different from the others. I believe that we are the ones who remember that we are one of the most storied programs in college football. We remember a time when there was swagger involved with being a Tennessee fan. We remember a time when, if we were down by 4 and Peyton got the ball back on his own 20 with a minute twenty seconds left, you had full confidence he could drive it those 80 yards. We are the ones who believe that a coach of the highest caliber, the single most sought after coach of our time not only would come here, but that the University of Tennessee would be the job he'd pick and want over every other single job on the planet. We are the ones who continue to believe in the strength of our history to propel us forward.

Stupid mullenites can't dream big. They can't imagine a life better than the one they already have. I genuinely feel sorry for them.

This this this. Sums it up perfectly. I grew up watching Johnny Majors’ teams, and I went to UT during the Peyton years & our National Championship season. Swagger is the perfect word. We were great and could be great again. I don’t want to “settle” - I want the Vols to be a powerhouse, like we should be.

They're working real hard to convince others (and probably themselves) that he is anything other than a mediocre hire.

Recruits aren't going to flock to him. He will probably have you beating Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and South Carolina but he's not going to get you to the top.

As bad as I hate to say it, Butch was more accomplished than Mullen is. Butch at least had won 4 conference titles. Mullen best season was 2nd in his division. And those saying he’s in a tough division or having to play Saban. Well, so do we. We need someone to beat Saban, not finish second to him.

Heck, if we're gonna go get JUST ANYONE to coach, there are probably some good high school coaches around that should get looked at, and I'm sure a cool 1.5mil would land some of the best of them, go for the big fish or it's over imo

Agree 100%. I don’t know how it works in an Coaching Hire/ University setting but in the corporate world, you’re responsible for interviewing a vast amount of candidates before you can make an “official” decision; regardless, of whether or not you already know who you’re going to hire.
