Official Jon Gruden Thread XIX

I just had a discussion with someone in the office, who's adult children have ties to the UT Athletic Department. She had dinner with them last night. One of her son's who's good friend works in the AD said....Get ready, "you're not going to like it", Jones will be fired on Monday. This talk about Gruden meeting with Currie is true, However, he's helping with the "new hire process" along with Peyton - not discussing Gruden coming to UT. They are trying to get Stoops - Gruden, and Peyton are just assisting in the process.

As someone with direct ties to the AD, I can tell you the only thread of truth in what you were told is that Peyton and Phil are assisting.

Omg. Basilio sounds like he's about to slit his wrists.

He and his cohost are lamenting over the news Butch is going to coach the Kentucky game.

Basilio said he heard there is no plans to fire Butch right now.

There never have been before the Kentucky game. All that was just wishful thinking and internet rumors.

I wonder if UTAD is pushing that message due to a favorable result of negotiating Butch's buyout, just to put on the appearance that Butch is actually willfully "resigning" to save face. This would have been UTAD's source of leverage in negotiating a reduced buyout, IMO.

You from Lynchburg?

Basilio is a moron. He was waxing poetic about Dan Mullen yesterday while throwing shade at Gruden's coaching abilities. He was also pumping up the Memphis Coach and some other nobody.

I'm certainly not trying to throw cold water on this party, but what makes everyone think Gruden would be even a good college football coach.
It seems everyone has forgotten his BIGGEST flaw as a pro coach was his inability to remain patient with young players. He seemingly hated rookies.
I mentioned Gruden to a lifelong Bucs fan, and he horse-laughed at the idea of CJG working with a college freshman. Suggested there might be a murder.

Does anyone have anything solid about Gruden or is it all here say from a third cousin twice removed? I think we are getting excited over nothing once again :(

That's the kind of fluid, changing info that happens in this stuff. Haven't heard it, but it makes sense. I really believe they'll go with an interim at some point to try and salvage what's left and let Butch leave on his terms though.

If what a lot have posted is true & CBJ wants out to save credibility for future coaching & Currie knows this & wants to negotiate the best buyout possible then Currie would have the upper hand. He can be patient & let the turmoil build for CBJ & force him into a better buyout for TN. So it would stand to reason that if Gurden or whoever cant start til after the season then you tell Butch you will have to coach til the end of the year. CBJ cant tank it if he wants to get another job and then once you are in position to either get the buyout you want or the coach you want you pull the trigger. This would explain conflicting reports on the timeline for the departure of CBJ

If they are for more than 1 year, I think they are covered.

Right, if an employment contract is "not to be performed within the space of one year from the making of the agreement or contract." If your employment contract CAN be performed within a year, SoF does not apply.

I'm explaining for the rest of the gang EZE, I know you know how it works.

Heard Hymas is reporting Peyton has decided to come back for his SR season did I miss anything else wile I slept. Is DTO still a troll?

Lol, yes. He said he heard from people in the program that there is no plan to fire Butch, then said in the almost same breath, after his cohost questioned him, that it was just his opinion!

😂😂😂

Some people subscribe to the theory that just because Currie is not VISIBLY doing something, that means that he is doing nothing.

I do not subscribe to that theory at all. I think the more INVISIBLE he remains (while Rome is obviously burning to the ground), the more he is doing serious work behind the scenes.

This also is where I subscribe to Boro's theory. Butch will remain as coach until such time that Currie doesn't need him in that position anymore. He obviously will not be back next year. That would be professional suicide by Currie.

I agree, but Butch is a cancer to the team right now. Just cut the cord and let an interim try to breath a little life back in the team after the Bama game. If Butch sticks until the end of the season this could be another first for Rocky Top. First season in history with less than 5 wins. It could seriously happen.

Lol..

Sure am! I grew up there prior to my 4 years at UTK.

Nice! We live in the Bonsack area of Roanoke just off 460... Lynchburg is really taking off with Liberty growing, I actually caught a flight out of there a couple of weeks ago to Louisville because Roanoke was booked.
