Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

We didn't free up $18 million for Dooley 2.0. We didn't fire Dooley before Kentucky if we didn't have a reason to.

Something is amiss. I am still confident this is all posturing.

No formal announcement from either side. It is not easy, but I'm staying strong until official press conference.
Maybe there is an unknown player of the megahire variety and we've been used as the smokescreen?

Feels like the last night at church camp with everyone ending thier one-week romances and promising to write when they get back to thier respective home towns. It's not supposed to end this way! I want to see some mother umph'n mattresses burn!

By god, I am with this guy! Enough is enough! Lets paint the Knoxville sky fiery orange! Who is with me?!?!?

have you heard from your source that it is over? or are you still standing with me?

I am still here Coasty but it has nothing to do with any info from any source. I have met some great guys (Bcarter and Boro) from this thread and know without a shadow of doubt they are solid.

To all the OGs, thank you.

To all the non-insider Grudenites, thank you.

And remember... didn't we want all the trolls and negagrudes to go away?

Thread is much more manageable now. I like this pace. I like these people. A toast to all of you still here.

I support the Vols regardless, but all these people who come in and give the OG insiders hell, need to chill. The Chattanooga writer didn't make up that article.

We may not get Gruden, but I know for fact that there was truth out there. I appreciate people for sharing because they didn't have too.

Any clue as to why Hart let it snowball and decided to say nothing?

Just guessing, but I do not think he had a pulse of how big it got, and got there very quickly. I think the info he released today was a direct result of this thread and the Chattanooga article that may have not been written without this thread. I think he said something as soon as he thought he had to, and did it through Hubbs and VQ.

I DO NOT blame Hart for this. I put the blame on Gruden for sitting back and enjoying the attention knowing he wasn't coming here. I no longer believe he contacted UT, and also no longer believe he ever had a contract or MOU in hand. JMO but its what I choose to believe looking at all the information. Take it or leave it. A little bitter I got burned, but cannot tell those people that burned me "Hey I posted that **** you told me online and now look ridiculous" lol.

Hart will get scapegoated but I bet when its all said and done and everything comes out it will prove that UT has infinitely more interest in hiring Gruden than Gruden ever had toward UT.

I'm in. Today has only 100% affirmed we are negotiating with Gruden. Do any of you HONESTLY believe anything his agent said? We hadn't spoken to him until today? Yet apparently he spoke to his family and decided he doesn't want to coach here...before we spoke to him? And Hyams himself confirmed he cancelled a meeting with us...THAT MEANS WE HAD ONE SCHEDULED. How do you do that without speaking to UT?

I'm not interested in naysayers' opinions who just want to doom and gloom, but to all of you serious Vols: I challenge you to go and read Dave Hart's press coference when he fired Dooley. Specifically, read his responses to questions. Tell me who he is describing, and who he is speaking to when describing the coach he intends on hiring. It is absolutely not Strong, Fedora, Patterson, Fisher, Golden, Smart. If you seriously think a man with his job and legacy on the line would go 3 weeks before even speaking to a candidate, you do not need to be scoping football rumors, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about or how this process works. I'm in, more so than yesterday

Great post. Gruden is the bad guy here!!!

Can I put my upside down T back up? J/K.

All in. I agree with you Coasty - more tot he story. Granted I'm a conspiracy theory kind of guy, so I view today's info as major smoke screens to buy more time on details.

There is no rule. It is only frowned upon. The worst that would happen is Hart would get a call from an angry commissioner.

Does everyone here believe that - at a minimum - the Gruden family is a friend of UT?

If so, wouldn't Gruden deny interest something like this:

"Thanks UT, but I love ESPN/NFL. But I tell you what, every coach in America should consider that job because it's a GREAT job."

Why would Gruden - a friend of UT - send out his agent to say that we lived in a fantasy world???

Makes no sense.

THIS... If the two people with the power to move this thing forward or put a stop to it haven't said a word, then why should anyone believe with any degree of certainty that JG is OUT?
Just because ESPN reports it (in fact, perhaps especially if ESPN reports it) does not mean it is so.
Keep the faith and use your heads. Reason will prevail!
