3 & out...bumper music this a m...first song 'Eye of the Tiger'

If nothing else, Grumors really are entertaining.

Since this is the official Jon Gruden thread...I'm gonna put this here, then DUCK..!!!
I just don't see the reason for all the "Gruden worship".
I don't find the kind of Head coaching experience IN COLLEGE that justifies the over-the-top excitement some folks have about this guy.
There's no question, we're going to pay millions of dollars for a top coach, so perhaps we need to look at what we are hiring if it's Gruden.
NCAA head coach record: NONE
NCAA recruiting record: NONE
OK...Pro record...???
Looks like he has been the very fortunate successor to a couple of good teams already built by someone else. When he did build a good team, it looks a lot like he went out with his bosses checkbook and bought it by finding the best free agents available and paying them whatever it took to come on over.
That's not recruiting great kids all while operating within NCAA rules...that's hiring mercenaries in a league with VERY few restrictions (relative to NCAA recruiting rules).
Just my opinion, and worth what you paid for it.

You didn’t duck fast enough ... we pay a head coach the big bucks for many reasons . The more checks you can put beside his name then reason dictates the better that coach should be correct? Our case at the present time needs even more than the normal checks ( imho ) so why the love for Gruden ? 1). You can not argue with the X’s &O’s ( he does this for a living ) 2) Does he have that “ it “ factor that will make kids give their all for him ?( Well he’s CHUCKIE, so that’s a yes) 3) All great coaches surround themselves with great people .( Gruden understands this and insists on it , Even the great NIKKI SATAN went out and got LK of all people because he needed his help to tweet that Alabama offense ) 4) Can Gruden rally the fan base and put butts in the seats ? ( we know the answer to this one already ) . 5 ) will Gruden bring Tennessee back to where we should be ? ( this one nobody has an answer to because every hire is a gamble but it’s easy to go back and look at #4 and say .. HELL YES!

Hubbs on TOS

"With the messages on the board, emails, tweets and text messages, Wednesday was maybe the biggest GrudenMania day ever. And as long as it remains a possibility, those days are going to continue.

What do we know? Gruden and David Blackburn have spoken. That's true. But while Blackburn went on record Tuesday, he was careful to never say that Gruden was for sure coming. He said he simply wouldn't rule it out.

We have talked to a couple of sources who have ties or know Gruden who feel like it's not going to happen for Tennessee. But Gruden is talking to people in the coaching industry for sure. It's something he always does.

We don't believe that Gruden has had any formal discussions with any Tennessee officials, but as we said on Wednesday, Gruden knows a lot of people in and around Tennessee that he talks with. When Gruden said he hadn't been contacted by Tennessee on the Mike and Mike Show, we believe he meant in a formal fashion, because Gruden has talked to people around the Tennessee program.

There are definitely some around Gruden who think it's real possibility that he might take the Tennessee job. We don't think all of this is some kind of big troll job. That being said, multiple independent people don’t see it happening. Bottom line, there's still a lot of “got to see it to believe it” thoughts out there from folks.

The bottom line on Gruden, the #Grumors will continue and we will continue to chase them.

Now, as for John Currie, we know he got to Charlotte via a commercial flight Tuesday, and the million dollar question is where did he go from there and why? That remains a million dollar question, as we haven't been to confirm his current location. And no one is happier that he's located at parts unknown more than Currie.

In terms of possible candidates, we hear that Mississippi State's Dan Mullen would listen to Tennessee. But we are told that Mullen is not a lock to move anywhere. He's more comfortable in Starkville that many think, and he has a good team coming back. Throw in that he's making nearly $5 million a year.

As for others, clearly Memphis' Mike Norvell is interested in Tennessee’s opening. There was some rumblings that he's been contacted by someone associated with Tennessee, but we have not been able to confirm that. Norvell is well liked by many in the coaching world and it would appear he's on an upward trajectory. He could be in play at Tennessee, Ole Miss and Arkansas — if the Razorbacks make a change. However, due to the timing of Jeff Long's departure as Arkansas AD, who would do the firing and hiring of a football coach in Fayetteville?

While we mentioned D.J. Durkin's name on Tuesday, it would appear at this point he's a down the line guy at best. Another Power 5 name we are checking on but haven’t found anything concrete with is Dave Dorean at NC State. Rumblings in Raleigh are that he would be interested in moving on.

Meanwhile, it doesn't appear that there's been any movement or contact of any kind with Oregon’s Willie Taggart. TCU Gary Patterson has been a popular name connected to Tennessee’s opening, but a connected source said the longtime Horned Frogs coach is not interested in the job.

Lastly, one recruiting note beyond the Cade Mays interview from Wednesday afternoon, junior college defensive end Dorian Gerald told us Tuesday that he’s still seriously considering Tennessee despite reopening his recruitment. Gerald is actually slowing down the process and won’t sign until February. He's planning a January official visit to Tennessee now with a final decision set for NSD."

I'd like to believe VolinExile. I'm waiting for Currie to say it first.

I'm still expecting us to get some nobody. That's what my gut is telling me. Lol

I think Currie is the difference this time. I don't think he will settle for a second tier coach and even if, God forbid, we miss on Gruden, he will be doggedly determined to get a top line coach.

I don’t understand the “Gruden can’t coach” or “Gruden can’t relate to players”, etc. stuff we keep hearing. He compiled a 38-26 record(if my morning brain hasn’t kicked in and my math was right) for a moribund Oakland Raiders franchise (never a losing record in 4 seasons there) just 3 losing records as Head Coach in 11 NFL seasons that’s pretty good for any coach. Heck Belichick had 4 losing seasons in 5 in Cleveland and his first in New England. Anyway, Gruden also seems to have a good relationship with many former players and while I’m sure he’s an intense personality to deal with(I grew up a Bucs fan because they were Orange and White go figure) I’m familiar with Chucky watching him on Sunday and have always loved him as a Coach. So as to why he keeps being mentioned as not a good coach it just bugs me. I would look forward to him as Head Coach. He has Championship pedigree and loves this University that’s enough for me.

I look forward to hopefully hearing “The next Head Coach at the University of Tennessee, Jon Gruden”. Blessings to those who have shared their legitimate inside information and thoughts. You all are awesome. To the others in this thread like me with zero insider information, rock on 🤘 and keep hoping we’ll have our White Whale soon and this program will return to its rightful place as an elite program. Grude On everyone.

I don't know squat about either of these posters on TOS, but thought a bit of positivity around here may help:

I have 2 strong sources telling me that the entire UT contingent was in Tampa last night....was it to make a final push? Was it to get the details ironed out? That we will have to wait and see...

i have heard the same

I don't have Swain on to confirm, but he is being quoted as saying the UT plane stayed in Tampa overnight).

For the people accusing everyone of being trolls... think about what you’re saying... All these people, who have been on VN for years and have well known profiles... Are making all of this up just for their own entertainment? I could understand if it were a bunch of new profiles that had never posted before, which is why so many people doubted MIT at first... UNTIL he was vouched for by another well known poster.

I’m sure there are some trolls in this thread, but these long time members with profiles dating back 5+ years and have 10,000+ posts are obviously not trolls. They may be getting inaccurate information, but they’re not deliberately trying to deceive anyone. They bring the information they get from their sources. It’s entirely possible that their sources are wrong, which they openly acknowledge...

Just because you can’t go verify every word they say doesn’t mean they’re making it up, or that it’s incorrect. Many of the details around this coaching hire will never be made public.. so the information you get here may be all you ever get. It’s not like once Gruden is hired, Currie will write a book detailing every step of the process. We’ll get the announcement and that’s it. Everything that is being speculated now will still be speculation even after Gruden is hired. We will never know for sure how it all went down because none of us were directly involved in the process.

I agree, especially with the last part of this. This hire is unlike anything, not only here, but any college has went through. We aren't trying to hire just a football coach. We are also hiring a "famous" personality. I'm not saying he's a Matt Damon, but in the sports world, he is more than just your run of the mill college or pro coach. That could be the reason a lot of false narrative is being leaked through normally reliable sources. JMHO

I BELIEVE!!

Awesome. Hate to hear that....never had any beef with him.

Just catching up from last night and I know you don't like me, but the post he was talking about was to me and BCarter did NOT call either you or DTO a troll he said there are some people in here trolling, and I need to be careful

I believe that there are some doing that as well (especially on twitter) as I am sure you do also, The only mention I saw of you or DTO was made by others who then began to try and figure out who is the trolls.

Just wanted that to be clear as the poster who said you or anybody was called out by BCarter is wrong!!!!!!

I wanted to call in on 990 yesterday morning soooo bad!!

Heather said she would give Gruden becoming UT coach a .1%.

Tyler said well what if he did become coach and after 5 years did not win enough and had to pay a big buyout.

This is what I would have said...

How many people know what is going on in search?

Their answer: probably about 5

Oh, so you all must be 2 out of 5!

I mean I think Gruden is coming, but that's like me saying I am 99% sure he is coming... that would be ridiculous right?! Of course I would not say that, because I don't know nor do you all.

On buyout....

So we should not hire any "homerun" hire, because afraid of having to pay big buyout in 5 years?!

My next questions.... So what about Brice's article about him reaching out to coaches to join staff here?

How many times has he been to Knoxville in past month?!

Sorry, just had to vent

Ive come to the conclusion that the night crew in the Gruden forum are the pessimist and the morning crew are the optimists. By late afternoon everything is always going well. You wake up and hear things became a dumpster fire. By the time breakfast hits its Full Gruden again. I dont need that night crew's negativity in my life. #Soon

It flip flops. There have been times when the night shift is full grud-on and the morning shift comes in like Margaret Thatcher naked in a cold day. (Austin powers reference)

He was talking about it a few minutes ago. He said the plain landed around 1 pm yesterday and has not left as of now. But he did say that the plane did go to Cali., Then Nashville and then tamp.

He could not confirm the alleged meeting.. because well. He isn't there.
