Yes. I've understood the beav's role and bubba's role, but I feel that we've been given way more info than required. And these people don't do anything without purpose. What is that purpose?

I think their purpose is what we are discussing. If this is true, this information will come out. Wouldn't you feel a little lied to if some news source blasted out Gruden came here because of a merger? If my very hazy memory serves me right, I think you have to file as a stalking horse bidder. I don't know exactly what you have to disclose, but with a merger of this size and interest with a huge hire, I would imagine people would want to discredit it. Perhaps by baiting the waters a bit, it puts us in the right frame of mind to accept it later.

Again, no idea if anything like that is remotely true, but it isn't any secret espn is losing money. A spin off is likely.

Very comparable. Do you really think there is that much difference in winning a NC and a Super Bowl? Alabama gave Saban complete control. Did they know it would work out like this? Absolutely not. Every coaching hire is a crap shoot. Nothingis guaranteed. Gruden could be hired and completely fail here. So could every other coach we are looking at.

My point is this, since every coaching hire is a gamble, why not shoot for the best you can?
Im not saying he isnt a good hire. But there is far more involved in CFB than just field play.

If I was Jon Gruden I would totally make an account here and make my username “IamJonGruden” and then I would be like “Man, you guys need to calm down, I took the job, see you next week” and then sit back and watch everyone call me a troll.

Then I’d be like ok fine, I’m eating a sandwich right now. Then take a picture of myself eating a sandwich, post it, then let the s***storm ensue. Half y’all would call me a troll still and I’d just sit there and laugh...then never post again bc I was too busy making UT football great again.

Didn’t he supposedly do this in 2012 too?

Assuming these latest Grumors are true, no, he never made it anywhere near this far in 2012. He told them fairly early on in that he wasn't interested in the job and openly stated he didn't like recruiting, but the rumors persisted because people wanted so badly for them to be true.

BTW, that bolded part is what every Grudenite needs to keep in mind. Gruden would blow away people at the press conference and energize this fanbase like no coach ever has out of the gate. I admit that it would be awesome and almost surreal seeing him on the sidelines wearing Tennessee garb with a headset on. I'm just not convinced he'd be a great college coach once the games start.

Take it one step further though...Gruden is a pawn in the sense that he had to come to UT to make it happen. Maybe Ergen didn’t want to pay his salary via MNF m, maybe wanted to have the boosters foot it instead...also There is a possibility they are gunning for the whole NFL package... that would probably take away direcTV access to the gameday package and is an obvious revenue stream, even if NFL ratings are down (down ratings will make contract cheaper to acquire).

I am not a lawyer and I don't know how the legal HR hurdle would be accomplished, but perhaps espn agreed to let Gruden out of a contract without penalty or perhaps there was some creative financing going on. Again, this would be peanuts compared to the size of this merger, but I think there is or was some incentive as a result of this that all parties (Grude, UT, dish, espn) found enticing.
