Offense is missing much more than a top level QB

His salary doesn't make him intelligent
The ability to get to that point actually does.

According to Gardener's multiple intelligences theory (i could note others), interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence would play a large role in being able to succeed while rising through the coaching ranks and achieving goals. Not to mention body-kinesthetic intelligence (obvious), and logical-mathematical, which wouldn't necessarily mean he can solve complex calculations, but he does recognize patterns such as when onside kicks, fake punts, or specific plays/schemes are being called by the opposition.

I would argue that pretty much anyone who has created a value for their own employment in the millions of dollars per year, is intelligent. That doesn't mean book smart, and hasn't since about 1983.

Having a reliable and dangerous TE as legitimate and consistent threat in the passing game would give the offense more horsepower.

The offense we have been running is based off the abilities our QB's had. The offense is most likely dummied down to whatever point they are in their development. When u dont have good qb play u have to run a ball control scheme just to protect them. U cant throw 50 passes when you have guys turning it over throwing 10-15 times.
The evidence for this is how they script the first series of plays for HB and they click off pretty well. After that, all bets are off.

Despite knowing that our lack of talent at QB has hurt us, even with one, we have to be honest with ourselves: The style of offense that we run is going to diminish the opportunities for our players rather than support them. Until we evolve into a more modern style of offense, none of the players that we have will fully meet their potential. Defenses figured out this offensive style 15 years ago, which is why college offensive schemes have evolved. I don't understand why going back to a style that's already been figured out seemed like a good idea.

Until we catch up to the style of offense that succeeds at the collegiate level, we will continue to be hampered by opposing defenses: even with a quality QB.

It’s much more about discipline and execution than it is style. Army played a far more talented team to within a field goal yesterday and only threw the ball 4-5 times.

Every team in the NFL plays some variant of the same type of offense. Some of them win and some of them suck.

I have very little confidence in this staff, but there are plenty of good CFB teams that run similar offenses to what Tennessee tried to run that win. Notre Dame, Texas A&M first come to mind.

If we get a qb in there that can actually play that will open chaneys offense wide open. What bray did here in 2012 wasnt luck. He broke some records here. Unfortunately we could only avg like 2 yards a carry so we had to pass every down. If he had our run game we have now things would of been alot different.
Dude could you imagine if we had bray and kamara on this team? Holy ****. Gaurantee you hyatt would get 1000 yards receiving as well as kamara. might have 2 receivers plus kamara with 1k yards receiving.

What does that even mean? What exactly do you expect us all to see?

He stated before that UT lacked talent, although Butch brought in some players, most were undersized and slow compared to SEC standards. This is what he has tried to bring in, but their young inexperienced, we have to go through the growing pains of building a SEC caliber team.

It was fun to watch bray throw to hunter and patterson. We also had rogers for a while at wide reciever. The thing that killed us was no run game or defense. Now we have a run game and a better defense than that year. But were not even close to passing game we had in 2012. Chaney would love to throw it more but he was limited big time the last few years.

Exactly!!! That's usually what happens with young Qb's. Believe it or not and despite what most would say HB is actually being brought along pretty rapidly. They allowed him to build confidence with no expectations. He basically got his offseason in the last 6 games. U can build off his 70% completion rate, 8 + yards per attempt, 4tds -2ints, plus he will still be a freshmen. I wouldnt be suprised if HB actually hits the ground running next season and gets off to a hot start. His command of the offense will take a natural step forward just from time. The game should also slow down for him. I think Pruitt actually has his guy, the question is if we can be patient enough to let it grow.

Of course it will improve it. But it will not be enough to get the job done against quality SEC defenses. This style of offesnive play has a number of recipes on how to be stopped. That's why the majority of successful college offensives are successful: because they try and execute new ideas that don't yet have a sound recipe for how to be stopped. One has to be unpredictable in the modern college game. And doing the opposite is not a recipe for success.
From what I've seen this year; there aren't too many good SEC defenses out there.

Offense has under performed, no doubt. But, the HC is a former D Cord of Multiple National Champs. Based on that alone there is absolutely no way the defense should look so bad. Multiple times per game (almost every game) the DBs are out of position and allow long TDs or long gains. The D could never stop the slant without giving up the outside. LBers constantly getting blocked out of pass coverage. Supposed advantage of 3-4 defense is to blitz from different positions to confuse Oline, but it never works. They lose by double digits to everyone.
The HC is not ready to run an entire Power 5 program. It is killing every part of the “team”

Having bigger backs who break tackles and fall forward will help too!

Watching the big back at Oklahoma chew up the gators shows that a power game can work. Our lack of a big power back under Pruitt has been a big problem. Florida's run defense was a big problem for them this year. A big 220 lb bruising tailback could have been a big help for the Vols. We have Crouch and a couple of big freshman tailbacks that could address this issue. Experience is the best teacher. Wide receivers will be improved next year and the running game and QB should be much better also.

This entire program is lacking leadership. The culture is one of mediocrity and complacency.

If Tennessee is ever going to be successful on offense, a Mobil QB is a must..... to win consistently
A QB that can make plays with his feet as well as his arm
Not sure that a successful offense requires a QB that works at a gas station...

I think our offensive system just won't work. We run a similar system as UGA and they have a lot better personnel and coaches than us but their offense still struggles often. You have to adapt a new system if you truly want to be more successful, period.

But they're regressing. That's the whole problem. Pruitt has shown no ability to develop talent or lead as a head coach. Both his players and well respected coordinators/position coaches are worse than that ought to be. At this point I can see no evidence he can get the job done.

Can you explain how you know this about “the entire program?” I suppose you are an insider and are privy to all meetings, workouts, practices, film sessions, study halls, coaches meetings, etc. Is that correct?

It wasn't a lack of a good QB. It was the refusal to move a completely inadequate QB aside so a good QB could be developed.

And... you cannot run a more aggressive offensive scheme without two things. One, a HC whose philosophy isn't stuck in the past. Two, a QB capable of doing it. JG never was. Pruitt refused to give up on the "safe O" plus "good D" formula.

You got to have an oline that can block first
On this I'm a broken record. They need a GOAT drill sargeant Strength and Conditioning Coach. One that they fear if he doesn't see them in the conditioning room without a good excuse they will feel really uncomfortable. (What an awkward sentence)

Well there’s your main problem, Pruitt had a free year to let Bailey and the young WRs just play this year, especially after the UK game, let them grow together and learn, people wouldn’t be so pissed.

If he’d have been “playing for the future” a lot of fans would’ve agreed and waited for next season.

Instead he rode the JG train too long and pissed off everyone, and that alone to me is a fireable offense. To be that stupid in a year where we weren’t gonna compete for the East or SEC, he wasted a golden opportunity, and needs to be shown the door
Crappy, safe hire for Fulmer. JG this. JG that. and the defense couldn’t stop a slant pass. Give it a rest. JG wasn’t the answer but he wasnt the only issue with offense. O-line really play like world beaters...predictable AD hires predictable head coach. Deal with it. Cincinnati went to the wire with far less talent than UGA...it’s called developing and coaching. Our players get all of that if and when they play in the NFL.
