OC Search - Kendall Briles (merged)

Agreed, but don't you find it odd freeze didn't get hired by bama, auburn, or Florida St?
I'am telling you, I posted yesterday and someone in this thread today, Freeze is a head coach (was). It does not seem to me he would step down to an asst. position unless there was no other way. EGO it is a hard thing to overcome.

Whoa !!!! Just because a guy interviews first, doesn't make him the No. 1 choice. Availability to be interviewed, more likely controls the schedule. Some of the people wanted for the position may be "tied up" in game prep or being talked to by other options who spoke first. Just because you talk to someone first doesn't make them your top wish list guy...

So you think UT has started at the bottom of their OC search list just to mix it up and increase the likelihood that candidates at the top would already have accepted other jobs before Pruitt got a chance to talk to them? Or maybe they put all the names on little pieces of paper, and are just pulling them out of a hat to get the interviewing order because at heart Pruitt is an agent of chaos?

Some of you people are acting like UT isn't capable of basic candidate prioritization because it hurts your feelings that we are most likely not going to get the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd guy that Pruitt reached out to for the OC position.

Looks like FSU going to swoop in again. Get this guy and leave UT in the dust. The longer this goes, the shorter the list gets.

There is no order of options. Are they supposed to jump at the first person they interview? You have no idea how many have been interviewed, how many have been offered, or how many have been told "thanks, but no thanks". Even so; many on this site, yourself included, seem to feel the search is a failure because they did not take the first, second or even third person with the interview. Have you ever been involved in the process of hiring someone? If you have, you know there is an initial vetting process, then you interview the best of the original potential candidates, then you pick the best fit based on those interviews. If not done that way, most searches will produce completely random results. Have you seen or heard ANY official statement from ANY member of the Athletic Department at UT that has ranked the candidates of a the OC position? Most likely, the ones losing their collective minds right now have taken names in the order reported by whichever reporter got his/her article out first and are freaking out because that candidate has not been hired yet.

Great post!!!! To answer you question, most posting about the "hiring" have never hired anyone or been through a interview process to be hired.

Can yall imagine a Briles offense to go with a Pruitt defense

giphy.gif
A Briles offense would wear down a Pruitt defense
We'd be hanging on for dear life by the 4th quarter with the defense sucking wind from being on the field 3/4 of the time

You may be a really strong poster here. But I don't think you are reading many post on this thread that in one way other agree with what I am saying as I agree with what they are saying. I don't want to discount what you are saying however, your experience with this type hiring process seem to be limited.

Can you work in a trick play where the center snaps the ball and the quarterback bobbles it on the first play of the season? Too soon?...
I’m open to suggestions as long as it doesn’t interfere with my philosophy of running between the Guards every play.

I expect the perfect person to pick an OC is someone who is a successful DC or HC with a DC background. They should know better than anyone how good an offense is and how likely it is to succeed in the conference.

I have interviewed people for jobs in the past. The order that people were interviewed had nothing to do with my first choice. It is always about scheduling. The interview has to be done when BOTH parties are available. TN has made no statements about ANY interviews. These rabid fans have taken the bait from reporters and anyone else that wants to post about THEIR facts. Truth is, I haven't read anything from the University so there isn't any REAL facts. It will happen when the person Pruitt wants reaches an agreement with the University. If anyone besides the University says something about the process it is just their opinion, no more no less. SMH

BINGO!!!

So according to reports Pruitt is interviewing more "air raid OC's. Why????? So he can demand them to run the same power; run first scheme like last year??????. The definition of insanity.
There's your problem... don't believe the reports!

But for the sake of discussion, let's assume that are accurate. If that's the case, I'd say it's another indication that Pruitt favors the spread more than we originally thought. We didn't line up in the I-Formation as much as I expected this year and we didn't "run first" as much as the volnation narrative seems to indicate. I got into a debate about that with a poster after the Missouri game and went back to chart the plays - what I found was that we passed on first down more than we ran on first down. Against Georgia, we were pretty balanced on first down but I can't remember if we ran or passed more. That may or may not be the case for other games, but the idea that we almost always run on first down isn't accurate.

Maybe Pruitt in more interested in passing the ball than we think or maybe he wants to do something similar to what Scott Frost does, where he spreads it out but still has a physical run game with lead blockers.

Some of you people need to watch Bama and Georgia, they throw but they run as well. Some folks act like they would be happy if we never ran the ball like that is going to win us anything in the SEC. We have to become good at both, what is so hard to understand about that. Spread of pro-style we have to be good at both to in the SEC. GBO!!!!!

Someone hasn't had their coffee yet this morning! :)

I'm not distracted and didn't say anything to indicate that I don't want him here.
I did not mean to imply you were distracted. Your question was a good one as I, too, thought he had been cleared of wrongdoing. Even if he has baggage, we all do and that’s why I made the priest reference. There is a lot of noise and speculation around this search so it would be easy for all of us Vol fans to be distracted. We need to all hang together, especially knowing the pseudo expert talking heads will bash whomever is hired anyway!
