OC Search - Kendall Briles (merged)

Obviously someone who turned down the job unless you subscribe to the idea that Pruitt can just now be bothered to interview his number #1 choice.

Gotta just say it, the OC that will take this job has to be ok with what CJP likely wants for “his” offense, and that is not a fit for every potential hire.

I wanted Freeze and I was ok with his hookers. He got busted, repented....we all fall short, etc....

Briles might be even better, but dang, 50 alleged rapes by 30 players over 5 years while your're an assistant coach! Sheeesh.

I'm sure he's been cleared but this isn't FAU and Houston scrutiny, man, this is the Tennessee spotlight! Just saying
Agreed. I find it hard to believe he didn't know a thing about any of this. I really hope if he's hired no "gotcha" stories comes out about him after the fact.

With that said he is a brilliant offensive mind.

Lulz, guarantee that's a negative Will Robinson.
It's one thing to hire his son that apparently has been cleared as not knowing anything about his dads problems at Baylor while coaching there.

But Art Briles I never see working in college ever again.

I hope all the naysayers on Kendall Briles have at least done the research on the Baylor fiasco and are giving true educated opinions. Nothing wrong with not liking him as an option. However, I do believe it’s wrong to make judgements based off headlines and media propaganda. I’m not disagreeing with anyone’s opinion. I just hope it’s an informed opinion. That is just my opinion. I’m not trying to convince anyone either way or to say anyone is right or wrong.

Do you honestly think that the order of initial preference is locked in stone and can't possibly change on the basis of the interview? Again, have you ever interviewed anyone for any job? I have. Sometimes, the person you think is the best possible person for the job isn't once you have the interview.

Still wouldnt change the fact that Pruitt did prioritize his choices, and had a number one choice. Whether or not he changed his number one choice to his number five choice after number one said no, we'll never know.

Haha, Hillbilly dgaf, if he thought they would get us to the NCCG next year he'd support Joe Paterno, Sandusky, Freeze, Art and Schiano.

I May be exaggerating a bit, but he ain't joking. Bleedat.

Briles potentially comes with even more baggage than Freeze outside of whatever may have come out from days prior to Ole Miss recently. I know he hasn’t been named yet but he’s tied up in lawsuits and there was a good bit of negative publicity when Houston picked him up. Maybe he’s clean but it seems odd that Freeze got shut down for some reason so we turn to another guy with potential issues. Maybe Freeze turned us down and Briles is a complete coincidence.

You are correct, but that statement applies no matter which side decided it wasn't going to work out. It doesn't mean we have "struck out" with a candidate that the coaching staff wanted (Not the fans) unless we actually have evidence. The chaotic speculation is hilarious to read as people open threads to bash/praise the latest candidate they read about. I could probably go online and anonymously post the Caine Ballard, the Greeneville Green Devils' head coach, is now the leading candidate for the OC position. I guarantee within minutes someone on this site would open a thread having a meltdown that we were picking an unproven high school coach just because he has won back to back state championships.

The media skewered our fan base after we ran off Schiano. Head coach and offensive coordinator are obviously different, but readily accepting Briles after the Schiano fiasco would be a very bad look. One of the most common criticisms that I saw was that we just didn't think Schiano was good enough and found the allegations convenient. This would seem to support that argument.

What? Pruitt is trying to find an offense that aligns with his defense. You don’t hire Briles and try and change his offensive philosophy. You hire him to implement it and win ****ing ball games period.
