Why are we a target GV? Could it be our past interventions, regime changes, CIA meddling, wars of aggression? The list is long.I don't disagree, but I will say there is a time and a place to go into someone else's front yard and kick them in the teeth instead of having them come into ours and do the same.
The problem is at this point we have been and will continue to be a target. Even if we pack up everything and bring it home, we will still be a target for terrorists and others. Why? A multitude of reasons and not one is greater than the other. And even if we took our ball and went home, Iran is the type of country with a long memory about such things and will continue to support those that will attack us.
I understand the non-interventionist thought pattern. Unfortunately it just doesn't work at this point.
its not just the US that says who has nukes, the UN security counsel has a say, and this is one of the few measures that ever gets close to unanimous agreement. More nukes does not make the world a better place, which is why there have been consolidations and drop in numbers of nukes in the world. the UN also set up a very specific task force to monitor all the nations in the world to make sure this doesn't happen.
I love that word, allowing. Like we have some sort of authority over what another nation does with their resources.
Yet, we wonder why we're a target.

Even without all of that..if America practiced isolationism..it would still be a target, albeit a much easier, softer target.
When you're the baddest dude on the block people are going to try and test you regardless of what you do or don't do.
its the only thing we have. and it is something almost all nations are a part of, including Iran, and when you are a part of it you have to play by the rules or else you don't get a vote. This would be one area where you could consider Iran 'rogue'
No. Until we're atacked directly.
Yeah but those "rules" go out the window with regards to Israel according to the US and the lap dog UN.
