They didn't stretch the field vertically. IMO, that's what allowed OU to play everyone so close to the LOS and stop the short passing and run game.
Even if you don't hit it, you have to crank one down field every once in awhile. Make sure the QB throws the ball away from trouble. An incompletion is still a good play.
That's 1 area where we should have seen more aggressive playcalling. To begin the second half, our rushing attack clicked. We followed that with a quick pass to Malone. Both plays had nice gains. Then, the drive stalled with uncharacteristic mistakes. Afterwards, play became tighter and their defense was disruptive due to busts in our o line.
So, it's a good point. We should have loosened up the defense with some safe attempts downfield. Question though, do you trust those plays with our oline play as the game progressed?
