First off how the hell cares what norm chow says. Secondly...we don't try to hire lane kiffin (for head coach), briles, or freeze because of their checkered past but we'd consider sark? Dude is a raging alcoholic
Well, we can recognize the people who've had a drinking problem and those who haven't. To all you polarized folks, there are a couple of things to keep in mind.
Just because someone has had a drinking problem doesn't mean it'll cripple them for the rest of their life. But it's still a concern for potential employers, especially when hiring to a position such as OC where they can be negatively recruited against, and where part of their background was showing up around college kids in their care falling-down drunk, as well as deeply offending potential donors with drunk vulgarity at a fund raiser.
So, ya'll can cut out the "he's automatically a POS" and "anyone who points out his problems is a POS" crap. He may have it beaten and be through all 12 steps right now. It's still a danger, concern and valid reason for UT to pass on him.
Talent is getting to Knoxville (as you know). I may be 100% wrong, but I actually think he could bring some stability to UT.
NOT getting on a soapbox here but........people in "recovery" are some of the most stable/grounded people on the planet. You would be amazed at some very high profile coaches that are in recovery that nobody knows about............trust me on this one.
Where we are now, we should not become a poster child for rehabilitating drunks. No way no how!I wouldn't be in the least bit ashamed or concerned about hiring a coach who was working through a drinking problem. There are however about 3-5 comments in this thread that make me embarrassed AF to be a Tennessee fan.
It is not a disease, it is an addiction. Same as coke, heroin, or nicotine. You can stop, you can dry out, you can be sober, but one slide and you can be back in the shitter immediately. I PERSONALLY do not want that at UT. I think that would be a testament that CJP is struggling. Additionally, the guy has exactly 1 game as an OC, 1. The other NCAA stops he called plays and was HC. Therefore wasn't able to pay full attention to either. And if that isn't enough, he and his former AD got smacked by the NCAA for paying officials off.1) We didn't hire Kiffin for head coach because he burned us previously and he's too immature to be in charge of a 100 million dollar football program. Notice that none of the other SEC/ACC schools that had openings hired him either.
2) You have ABSOLUTELY idea why we did or didn't hire Freeze or Briles. Notice Freeze isn't coaching at Bama or Auburn or FSU either. Probably for reasons you and I will never know. We probably did try to hire Kendall Briles but he wanted to go to FSU. So next up. Maybe Sark isn't the best NFL OC in history, but as a Falcons fan, I can tell you the OL situation is awful. As far as the drinking, its a disease that hes's seeking treatment for and should be a non issue.
More than welcome to your opinion....but one should be educated before spouting off stuff they know absolutely nothing about. It is not a disease, it is an addiction. The guy is an L 7 weenie.
I actually do know. I just don't glamorize it such that people don't have to take responsibility for their issues. Calling it a disease is a cop out. It is a self imposed addiction. No one made an alcoholic take the first drink or the 1001st drink. No one made them drink themselves into a physical dependence. Lack of self control did that.More than welcome to your opinion....but one should be educated before spouting off stuff they know absolutely nothing about.

Who gives a **** what Norm Chow thinks?Chow says it would be a good fit if his off-field problems are resolved.
Chow on Sarkisian: 'Football wise he would fit'
That's a valid point. But Quinn didn't hire Sark unilaterally. He was also interviewed and vetted by Quinn s boss, a self made billionaire who had previously been burned by Vick and Petrino. If Blank was willing to give him a chance then I think that screams volumes about where Sark is at right now. JMO.
