Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

I saw the first half...at one point it was like 20-2,,,not impressed with 4 DD's against a team that never was in the game
I don't think that much can be taken when you have mismatches like this, but it is telling that a fairly young team missing two excellent starters from a year ago came out in their first game and thoroughly dominated for 40 minutes...and all the players in the main rotation contributed heavily. I'd be very happy with this start if I were Dawn.

The biggest concern if I'm Kentucky is that Owens/Edwards were non-factors that were in foul trouble the entire game...against Murray State. That doesn't bode well for them if they have to play a team with a strong frontcourt. But Patterson sure seemed to like the extra shots that were available without Howard, and Treasure Hunt looks like she'll be ready for Day 1.

I wouldn't lose sleep if I was an SC fan, what with the fact that they didn't need Boston to do much today. She was probably drawing a lot of defensive attention just by virtue of being on the court, opening things up for their guards. Having 4 players with double-doubles is pretty damn impressive. They keep calling Grissette a guard, but she looks like a post to me with her stats.

Yes, it was an issue for Kentucky for certain. Patterson had to score 30 otherwise they would have been in a tight game.

You are very right in that as a Kentucky fan I was very disappointed in the area's of rebounding and post player scoring. A few reasons I'm not freaking out though are: 1. Edwards hasn't played an actual game in over a year and Owens played sparingly at Maryland so I'm hoping it was just 1st game rust and nothing more. The next game will say a lot...

I was, however, excited in that a year ago Kentucky struggled as a whole anytime Howard did not play (Almost lost to Auburn in the game she got hurt, and lost to Ole Miss when Howard was still hurt and didn't play and others) but still looked and played like a top 15 team which I believe bodes well for the rest of the season. Yes, Patterson scored 30, but I still don't think it would have been close. She was clearly the 1st option today.

Honestly, I'm just glad basketball is back lol I'm looking forward to checking out your lady vols

Grissett is 6-2 and can play the 2 and 3

Sorry, I can’t ignore.

How did “UConn” act like they had no interest? There was no official statements or quotes from anyone from UConn.

He also totally supported Delle Donne. You have a link or even a quote from Auriemma?

How Elena Delle Donne spurned Geno Auriemma only to reunite with him in the Olympics

Thanks for the link. I remember when she left UConn, sneaking out in the middle of the night. Lots of UConn fans were po'd but I never saw a single negative quote from Auriemma. Once again somebody pulls sh*t from some dark place and posts it as if it were fact.

From the linked article - University of Delaware AD -"Just like me, he wanted what’s best for her,” Martin said. “I saw him in the state of Delaware recruiting Elena. I understand the time, energy and work that went into that. For the best player in the country to leave your program, there are a lot of coaches around the country who would not have handled that well at all. He handled it with class and dignity.”

Grissett will play point this year along with the other wing positions but she’s going to see a lot of time at the 1 this year.

that’s because a lack of a point guard? if you have henderson, cooke, and russell who can play guards why her?

definitely....not powerful enough to be a 4 and no post moves to be a 5,,,but versatile enough to play 2-3

Lele has attempted two 3pt shots in three years at SC. She scores all of points in the paint off cuts to the basket, putbacks or driving layups. She can guard 1-5 on defense, but she is a very limited player on offense. If she envisions herself as a guard in the pros, I don't think she will have a lot of takers.

No it’s because of her versatility and ability to use her size as an adavantage at the 1. She’s also a good ball handler and passer for her size. Russell will play off the ball this year and should excel there.

The key words are “for her size”.

To play the point effectively you have to be more than a good ball handler for her size.

And as Amber said, it makes no sense to call her a 2 or 3. She doesn’t shoot well enough from the outside. She is a really good 4. 6’2” is plenty big enough and she plays bigger. And her quickness at the four is hard to match up with.

In a weaker conference, yes a 4, but in the SEC, she's a 3

But she’s not a 4. She plays the guard positions regardless of an outside shot and she played point in the game and will continue to do so.

So far Arkansas defense is pretty porous. You’re going to have to outscore them to win though. A lot of their games appear they are going to be 90-87 or thereabouts lol.

Going to have to close out on every single player. All four of their starting guards are more than happy to pull the trigger from 3. Thomas is doing a good job cleaning up open buckets off of double teams but otherwise they have 0 inside game.

Notre Dame looking out of sorts down 11 in the first quarter to Ohio. Maddie Westbeld looks great though, really nice shot and great moves off the bounce at 6’3”. They are down 3 starters, don’t think they have said why yet. Brunelle, Gilbert and Vaughn are all sitting today and Sunday according to the announcers.
