SC dropped their new Nike deal. Does our Adidas deal give us a monetary recruiting advantage over them for the next 10 years?

Recent apparel deals struck by the University of Tennessee (with Adidas) and the University of South Carolina (with Nike):

Key differences

Tennessee's deal with Adidas: It is widely reported to be a much larger deal financially. While the exact numbers are not publicly confirmed by Tennessee, reports suggest an annual value close to $20 million per year. The deal also emphasizes a significant NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) component, according to Yahoo Sports. This includes Adidas actively pursuing NIL deals with Tennessee athletes, even before the official partnership begins in 2026. Tennessee will be a "flagship" program for Adidas, implying a high level of support and resources from the brand.

South Carolina's deal with Nike: The announced deal, approved on August 22, 2025, is a 10-year partnership running through 2036, valued at $70 million in products, $5 million in cash, and a $2.5 million supplemental product allowance. This translates to roughly $7.75 million per year. The deal also includes provisions for uniform redesigns, a new basketball court design, and a prominent role for former Gamecock and WNBA star A'ja Wilson in marketing and product development, according to WLTX.

Yes. We obviously got a WAY better deal. Not to mention, adidas will be involved giving out individual NIL deals to a bunch of UT players from multiple sports.

From a capatialist voint of view how much does Adidas expect to make from the TN fans purchasing their apparal and shoes, versus from SC fans. Similar motivation is visibility. Without a doubt the apparal/shoe mega companies have algorithms that apply to self-benefit.

BTW do any of you readers/posters have in your budget buying LV or other TN apparal this coming season?

Evidently, Dawn would have flown the coop and taken the NY Knicks job, if it had been offered to her.
Yes... she made it clear that it was a step forward for women and that is her biggest goal. She wants to break glass ceilings for women and women of color in particular. She makes 4 million a year, but the Knicks job pays 10 million a year. I wouldn't have blamed her for either reason. She has set a very high bar in life. She said the WNBA nor another coaching job in college would ever pull her from South Carolina, but I am sure that she would jump at a 76's opportunity. Like I said... she would want that opportunity so other women would get an opportunity. Nothing wrong about that. Probably won't happen anytime soon though.

Salary-wise, taking a job like this is a no brainer. Beyond that ... I don't know.

I think she is better off staying at SCar anyway.

Me too. Not really sure her heart was anywhere near set on it. Sounds like she talked herself out of it during her interview. I just hope she finds peace with the way this opportunity worked out.

I think Texas, South Carolina, and LSU are looking at their recruitment board to make that first big move in 2026.
Coach Kim and Tennessee in WBB has the first major domino in recruiting to fall in the SEC by gettting a huge verbal commitment from O. Edwards arguably the top player in 2026.
With the Pauldo twins plus mutiple elite Top 10-20 McDonald’s AA guards in Deniya Prawl and Jaida Civil look for the LVs to add elite frontcourt and wing talent in Knoxville. Tennessee now has either signed or have a verbal commit from 4 McDonald’s AA in just over one year between the 2025-2026 classes before the 2026 signing day. That’s unheard of!

Yep. And Mikayla Blakes can enter the portal and come to TN. Isn’t she from TN?

If Shea Ralph can develop ADR though, they’ll be solid.

ADR has bad ankles I believe. At her size and weight that’s a tough problem to overcome. I don’t think she’ll ever do much.

Blakes is great and any team would be crazy to turn her away. I do think she’ll transfer.

Won’t be shocked if this is Geno’s last season and then they replace him with Ralph. Would bet Blake’s would follow to play with Strong if she stays at UConn.

Yeah, if she transfers I could see her at UConn or SC.

Both teams are losing a lot of scoring after this season.

The 2025 and 2026 classes have HS players that can step up in year 1 and be key pieces to championship contending teams from Day 1.
Tennessee, LSU, and South Carolina have added championship caliber players with every school adding 7-8 McDonald’s AAs via HS & transfer portal recruiting.
It’s not about stats. It’s about recruiting elite players to stack talent.
No coach has stacked more talent than Coach Kim in one year.
I’m interested to see how Texas, LSU, South Carolina, even Kentucky responds to the latest Tennessee & Edwards commitment.
That’s the bottom line.

If we can get a couple more on our list we will have won the last two seasons against all of them except LSU who had recruiting on our level last season, It remains to be seen what they do this season.

VF, Tennessee had LSU beat last season in Knoxville. I think a few plays down the stretch was the deciding factor with missed quick shots that we made most of the night just didn’t go in. Final score was 89-87. Since beating LSU in the SEC tourney a few years ago, all these games have been decided late in the 4th qtr.

Edwards was a huge target for LSU, they really needed an athletic big in that class.

I wasn't really talking about the games, but yes they have been close. I was talking about recruiting as they have been running right with us looking to see if they can do it in 2026.
