No QB Announcement

Chryst has never beaten a decent team period.
And that's a stupid argument to make by a JG fan since he has only one win as a starter in 6 tries and that was against a middling mid-major team.

But yes... a P-5 bowl team is better than So Miss. They're also as good or better than UK or Vandy. The SEC is the top conference but that doesn't mean everyone else is terrible or talentless.

Neither one of them has beaten anyone of note. No one is claiming JG beat a bunch of good teams.

FYP.

You really need to give the Pac12 credit before making this kind of declaration. They aren't trash. They play good football. They all share the CA HSFB talent which is considerable. A Pac12 bowl qualifier is a "good" team. He didn't win any against the top tier teams. But UT behind JG was blown out by Bama and an LSU team that can't really be considered top tier at this point.

You can argue that JG has more physical talent. You can hope that he's matured mentally and emotionally. But if you want to look at records... 11 wins over bad teams plus two losses against good teams... is better than 1 win over a bad team plus 5 losses... some not very good teams.

I’ll be cheering for him and hoping he plays great, far better than he did at Stanford....and if he does I’ll be thrilled. Said it before, if JG can’t beat Chryst out given everything/all the factors at play here, he needs to move on and find another school.

Cheer our starting QB? Like me?

I would hope any and everyone that calls themselves a Vol fan would no matter who starts, and I'm sure thats the only thing that will be said about it.

shut. up.

Don't think it really impacts West Virginia either way. JG played last year as a pocket passer, showing no evidence as to why he was a highly touted dual threat QB. KC is obviously a pro style pocket passer. WVU will prepare the same way for either, I believe.

have you seen all the clips of KC running thru and over defenses at Stanford? it may be his best play. he's more of a running threat than JG at this point lol.

Not more impressive when it is over 3 years. So about 3.7 wins per year vs mediocre to bad teams. If JG has played three years and won only 11 games I wouldn’t want him to start his fourth year.

The best team was .500 he beat. He hasn’t beat a good team. Neither one has.

Where did you get 3 years as a starter from? He didn't start any games his first year. LOL... this is why people are so dismissive of your blind love affair with JG.

IIRC, both teams that KC lost to as a starter were ranked at the time. So if you want to compare records then you STILL have to say neither has a win over a "good" team if you want to use that language to define bowl qualifiying P5 teams... but JG hasn't beaten bad teams either. At worst, you give KC credit for beating 11 "bad" teams in 13 starts to JG's 1 out of 6 overall and 1 of 4 vs "bad" teams.

There's just no mental gymnastics that turns starting records into a positive or even a tie for JG. The reasons he starts if he does... are that he has tremendous physical talent and has grown in the mental and emotional parts of the game.

My guess is JG starts 1st series v WV. If not, I hope they do a better job of massaging his attitude before game time.

I hope because of his ceiling that JG starts. However I hope that whoever starts is the QB from the first snap to the last. This team doesn't need musical chairs at QB.

Once again I’m not saying JG has a good record. Chryst played three years, I didn’t say started. He won 11 games. 3.7 per year.

Neither qb has an impressive starting record. Chryst didn’t even play past the first quarter in a couple of his best “wins.” So they are pretty close. Winning 3.7 games per season with Heisman caliber backfield mates and great line is unimpressive.

Interesting...thanks for the insight. I watched his Stanford highlight video and saw him running some, but was not aware that was considered his forte. Even so, I don't think that WVU will really prepare differently for the two qb possibilities. I think if one of them were like Lamar Jackson then they would be concerned about preparing differently. The difference between KC and JG is not something I think WVU will worry much about. JMO.

The truth is there are big questions about both QBs. JG had no blocking last year, so really hard to evaluate (especially as a RS Freshman). He has a strong arm and mobility, but we don't know how he's progressed. It's really hard to look poised and produce at the QB position if you're running for your life every play. Most fans don't realize that. No protection = panic/erratic QB play.

At the same time, Chryst was a suitable starter for Stanford but he got beat out by more talent. He has experience with a good Stanford team that relies heavily on the run game, but he's never taken a snap for Tennessee. We'll see. Whoever the coaches roll out proved in practice they give us the best chance to win. It's a new year. The QB starter deserves a fresh start from fans...whoever it is.
I disagree with the JG critique a little bc you made no mention of how long he held onto the ball when he did have time in the pocket. Even when he had protection, he couldn’t make a quick enough decision.

I believe we play both QBs on 9/1. It could be a benefit for us, it could also be a hindrance. if it plays out that way, I hope one of them takes the reins and never lets up!

The only way I see only one quarterback playing the whole game or at least the first 3 quarters is in the hopeful event that UT grabs the momentum early on and never lets the Mountaineers up for air or at least keeps the game within reach. Should that scenario prevail it comes down to not switching horses midstream. I gotta believe Pruitt would be less focused on giving both guys a shot to win the position in that first game than he would be on winning the game itself.

Chryst will not check out.....JG proved last season what a pouting cry baby looks like
Funny how a lot of people keep pointing this out and the same people will praise dormady all the while willfully overlooking the fact that he quit when he lost the starting job and left the team when a new coach came in
