New QB being Installed During Offweek

With JG in his last year, and we are loosing games by double-digits why are we not letting the other QB’s get playing time?” – Mid Tenn Outdoor News

Ben: Because Tennessee is trying to finish out the season on a high note and the coaches believe that if it’s going to do so, it’s going to be because Jarrett Guarantano turns his season around. The other three quarterbacks simply aren’t ready to lead Tennessee to victory in the eyes of the coaches. UT may reach the point of playing young players for the sake of preparing for the future, but they haven’t reached that point just yet. The Vols have to find a way to finish the season with some victories and the coaches believe the best chance of doing so is with Guarantano at quarterback.

JG turning his season around 😂😂😂

Oh God its painful.
He can come back next year.

What? That makes absolutely no sense at all. You’ve seen Bailey throw a grand total of 4 passes in the SEC. Out of those 4 there was ONE well placed ball, 2 incompletions and one that should’ve been picked and THATS all you need to see to anoint him “the best chance to succeed”?

To say Maurer doesn’t give much hope is to suggest he can’t get better when he was the flame that lit the candle to begin with as a true freshman. The entire team played more inspired. Not to mention he competed, and had success against the nations best. Has JG ever threw for 250+ vs UGA? Would you expect Bailey to throw for more? Has JG ever kept it close with Alabama or ANY of the big three for that matter?

Idk what a kid has to do for some of you to believe but you’re setting the bar pretty high for Bailey to be “better” than we’ve SEEN from Maurer.
Maybe quit overly concerning yourself over what this board thinks? You’re never going to change individual opinions through your sheer force of will.

When a message board becomes less than a thing of opinion I’ll take your advise. Maybe accept my opinions without ridicule just as you do with so many others and you’ll feel less inclined to seek me out?

I’m just talking qbs and football. I don’t see the harm in making valid points.

Huge mistake if true. Jg and BM are polar opposite qbs. So unless Cheney prepares two separate game plans........ idk.

The game plan either works with JG or we concede defeat. Pruitt won't accept JG being replaced until the game is already out of hand. Maurer will be brought in just to hand it off as we run the ball until time expires with no expectation of scoring.

You’re probably right. If at all. I’d rather not see him at all if Cheney doesn’t have him prepared with his style of play.

It's the unfortunate reality of JG as QB; what options does Chaney really have?

If Pruitt were serious about opening the offense up, and scoring more than 24 points, he'd have already made the QB switch.

His defense-first mindset is going to get him canned in the end.

I couldn’t agree more. Last year he was legitimately on the hot seat. Not so much this year because of the extension but I’d be willing to bet my left arm that regrets are plentiful.

You’re just so insistent and overly instigated tho. Makes it fun for some but it’s concerning as a fellow human.

I want UT to win just as much as the next guy. You THINK you have me pegged as someone that’s only here for one player when the entire time all I’ve wanted is what’s best for the TEAM. Right now UT needs a TRUE duel threat and there’s only one on the roster.

I disagree with your comment. IF the UT coaches had any clue about quarterback play in at all, there's no way JG would even see the field here. Yet in year three they keep running him out there like he is a legitimate starter in the SEC and he is not. This coaching staff has done a tremendously poor job evaluating the QB position and the recruits they brought in which leads me to believe UT has hired the wrong head coach. Three years in and there has been no improvement in the most important position on the team. Bailey would give this team the best chance to succeed and I say that because we have seen god awful JG and even Maurer play and neither gives much hope.

Wanted: a quality QB to play football at the University of Tennessee, experience necessary!

I’ll give you that he was a stronger runner. I’ve said that multiple times. But Maurer is a better passer no matter how much you don’t want to believe it.

You follow stats like they’re gospel. You’ve proven time and time again that what actually happened in the games hold no weight to what the bottom line reads. So here’s the truth. Maurer has fans. Lots of them. The reason so many people believe in him isn’t because of his stats. It’s because of the unteachable attributes he plays with. When he’s on the field it’s exciting. He has you on the edge of your seat. When you see him playing you don’t know if he’s going to throw a td, run like hell or throw an int at this point. Speaking for myself and maybe others feel the same but you never feel like a 3rd and forever is out of reach with him under center.
Yeah Dobbs was not a great passer at all. Its why I was shocked he got drafted as high as he did.

It would be coaching malpractice to not have him ready, seeing as JG can ya know, JG us into oblivion as our coaches have seen time and time again. Gotta be prepared for JG to be completely ineffective and disastrous.

The game has evolved. As much as some may not like it, pure pocket passers becoming a thing of the past and coaches at the pro level are looking for qbs that can run to keep drives alive. They figure it’s easier to coach accuracy rather than speed

I want this thread to become filled with actual info about a QB change over the next couple weeks.

#StartMaurer
I was with you, 100%, until you mention Mauer. But, at this point, I'd take Mauer over JG. I'm just ready to throw HB to the wolves.

Like how you have it set up where if Maurer doesn’t excel or even succeed, it’s because stupid Chaney didn’t change the whole offense to fit his strengths. I’d be all for tweaking and fine tuning IF he emerges as the guy. I DO have you “pegged” as someone who FOLLOWED one player to this program. You want what’s BEST for the team as long as it’s MAURER. So you fit what’s BEST to meet your idea of what he’s the the ONLY entity. I’d give you minimal or at least a lot less grief if you were minimally honest about. You’re not a Vols fan. When he’s gone, so are you.

Ok. Let’s go with the highly rated pocket passer. I really don’t care. I just know what I see and that’s the same thing I’ve seen for 3 years now. UT needs a True duel threat at this point. Not a stationary object.

Best QBs break down the opposing schemes and throw the most efficiently. Mahomes and Wilson are able to leg out first downs and more...as does Daniel Jones. But Aaron Rodgers (your boy) is just as deadly when he can barely walk and we’ve met Tom Brady. It’s always going to be the best guy that can get the ball to the weapons.

And btw. I have nothing negative to say about Cheney. Never have. I think he’s limited by who he’s forced to use.

Early years Aaron Rodgers Butchna. He would run and was fast enough to be effective but was never shifty. Throwing mechanics are mirrors of each other. You keep bringing it up and I’ll keep the comparison

Banking everything on what’s happened HERE under 1 QB...for 4 seasons But you seent it.

He could leg out some first downs. Peyton had a 76 yard TD once. Never seen the Rodgers comparison...that’s why I continually reference it. Really ridiculous at this stage.

I agree with u with the possibe exception of maurer. Both bailey and maurer should play in games until one separates himself from the other with better play. Good coaches miss it on who should be playing qb a lot. Smart missed it on fields, mullen missed it on franks and trask, ohio state missed it on morrow.
