New commit - Derrick Baker 2027 QB

3* is the new 5*.
... with regards to the way NiL is distributed, "you ain't never told a lie"! First schools for most 4 and 5 star players will just be where player 'x' gets their foot in the door.
I would bet 3/5 (or worse) 5star players flip-flop at least once in their "careers", with the team-hoppers becoming the norm as well.
3* players, imho, are the sweet spot for talent and coachability. Any higher, and they're too flakey and proned to monetary temptations. Any lower and they probably lack the anatomical primordial soup to develop into D-1 footballers. But idk...

What?

James Pearce ratings per site in 2022:
247Sports: 4* EDGE, #18 Overall EDGE
Rivals: 4* WDE, #10 Overall WDE
ESPN: 3* DE, #40 Overall DE
On3: 5* EDGE, #1 Overall EDGE

Ok so an ESPN 3* and 4* composite. Duly noted.

Stand by every word in my post. Not a single poster on this board knows how good this kid is gonna be in college...and the best QBs in the NFL right now and historically were not 5* kids in HS. Crapping on a QB before he takes a single snap at UT is both asinine and something expected of SEC rival fans. Not our own. The whiny, bitchy Negavol portion of our fanbase is just annoying.

I give this kid a lot of credit coming in the year after Faizon. Very few would be willing to do so knowing they are probably 3years from ever getting a start at minimum. Shows patience and belief in himself.

This stood out to me.

"He has a very strong arm and is build like a linebacker. He is very strong and powerful at 6-2, 225 pounds."
In high school......at 220. Put 15-20 pounds on in the weight room and you have a linebacker under center.

Josh moving toward the single wing in honor of General Neyland? 🤔😉

Seriously, maybe the young man is a true dual threat who makes DBs remember they hit him and remember he threw it by them too.

Josh Allen comes to mind. I don't want to hit that big guy but I really don't want him beating me with arm either.

Edit: Josh Allen was a zero star in HS. JUCO to Wyoming. I'd forgotten that.

Heard (and read the on here) the same about Bishop.
... Idk why ppl post this type mess about their own team's new additions.
What is @mackievol really trying to contribute to the discussion?
Do they predict the future that accurately?
I would bet there's a 100% chance there are other teams with recruits that may better suit Mack's precognitive abilities and athletic standards.
Hate to see a fan go, but I hate to see my own recruits bashed for no good reason even moreso.
Hopefully, young Mr. Baker will read and take the post from Mack to heart (0.01% chance) and trains like a mad man, bc proving pessimists wrong is the best!
GBO!

Idk why you bother to stop and post this type mess about our own teams new additions.
What are you really trying to contribute to the discussion?
Have you truly, the ability to predict the future with such accuracy?
Since you'd have us discuss your exclusive opinion instead of sharing enthusiasm for our new player, I will ablige.
I would bet there's a 100% chance there are other teams, with recruits that may better suit your precognitive abilities and athletic standards, you could root for and hate on. 🤣🤣
And I would hate to see a fellow fan go, but I hate to see our own newcomers bashed in their new backyard, for no good reason, even moreso.
Hopefully, young Mr. Baker will read and take your hate-post to heart (0.01% chance) and trains like a mad man with an axe to grind, bc proving pessimists wrong is the best!

No. You'll end up paying what they are worth. We paid Nico for an entire year to sit on the bench, playing half assed for a season, and then bolting. He hasn't panned out at UCLA either. So we dropped premium money for garbage play. Did we overpay Joey?
Huh? You don't know how any player will pan out. Every player won't leave. You still recruit the way that you recruit. If you change your process, you will get burned.

This stood out to me.

"He has a very strong arm and is build like a linebacker. He is very strong and powerful at 6-2, 225 pounds." 6' 2,225 pound ? He shoul defunitely change positions.
The way it posted it looked like 6' 2, 225 pounds.

Nah, he's gonna be too big. What are they thinking. He'll grow into a tight end.
or maybe NT.

Who really knows what is being paid?
The bottom line is, to build future teams, we have to invest in people and relationships. Was true in the past, still true now. 🤷

True, but in real life outside of government people manage this pesky thing called a budget or go under.

It appears those are about the same odds as you becoming a VOL fan with any value add to the program based on your willingness to trash a commit. You are of course free to strive for those depths. You can’t buy enough tickets and hats to buy your way out if you dig a deep enough hole.

The coaches offered him immediately after he showed out in camp last year. Our coaches clearly believe in the guy...AP said he threw it all over the yard in camp. James Pearce was a 3* kid that our coaches really liked. All that matters is what our staff thinks...star rating means absolutely nothing the day you step foot on campus. This kid probably redshirts next year in 27 to get 2 years between him and Faizon. He has a good a chance as anyone to start here. Joey is a freaking zero star recruit and if he is eligible he will start over 2 young QBs that were both 5* guys in HS at times. I hate when people who have never even laid eyes on a recruit try to write them off. So stupid.
I thought Pearce was a 5 star and one of the top players in the nation according to ON3. Did he get bumped up after we had offered him or something?

I'm pretty sure Nashville runs a budget deficit.
Tennessee state government is not allowed to run at a deficit for the year. Any deficit they currently might have has to be resolved by the end of the fiscal year. That's typically in July for government institutions. Something like 49 states keep similar requirements.

Budget deficits are a federal thing. Wars are expensive.

Nashville Metro was who I meant. Several cities run deficits and several other cities and states shuffle money around to fully fund this program one year and that program the next year to make it work or appear to work.

You're correct, the only ones who don't have to play a shell game with money are the Feds.

Accounting shenanigans abound. But that's true of any organization with a large budget. The private sector is probably worse about that than government.

You may well be right about a city of Nashville deficit. I'm not well versed in the local system there. Where I am that isn't they case though and on the state level you have to balance your budget.

I always laugh when a former governors running for Federal office talks about how they balanced a state budget. They did, but only because they didn't have a choice.
