Negativity?

With what has happened here recently, it's hard not to be a little salty.

We are going through a very tough time and it will more than likely get worse before it gets better.

Doesn't make any any less of a fan to say that were probably going to be bad for the next few years.

Realism- "Sure, our team is a little over matched and we have an unproven coach. But I bet that our boys will play their heart out every down for our team and I will support them."

Negativity- "The team has no chance to win more than 6 games. The coach has no ability to recruit or get anyone to perform for him and I will be pissed if he's here for more than three years."

You tell me which one we've have seen more on these forums.

I'm sure the team will give their all, I also think that 6 wins would be incredible...our schedule is brutal.

How does it make anyone LESS of a fan to realize this program is in rough shape.

It doesn't. UT football has taken a beating the last couple of years, but that is no reason to think UT will be so bad that we might as well quit theaport or that Dooley MUST be a failure because his record last year wasn't so great. We'll be just fine.

Al Golden's record is worse than Dooley's. And Randy Edsall is barely above .500 and his best record is nine wins in ten seasons.

Randy is the strongest of the two but that's like being the prettiest fat girl at the prom...

Both of them have an M.O., an identity, and the programs they were at took on those identities. Dooley took a crap team to a bowl, yeah, but he doesn't have that identity. He's an ambassador, much like Fulmer and Bowden, and that isn't conducive to success in today's game. I haven't seen anything from Dooley other than his focus on class. Class doesn't win football games.

You havent seen anything from him because he hasnt coached a game here yet. What does his record at la tech have to with anything. The arent even comparable jobs. Its harder to win in the SEC i understand. But its also easier to win at tennessee than la tech. Much easier to do the things that he needs to get done in order to be successful here. Hes done everything he could up to this point. Salvaged a pretty good recruiting class. Well see how well he does when they take the field. Realsim is understanding that we dont know whether the team will be good or not.

You are not being negative if you look at the situation for what it is. The fact is we have not played in a BCS Bowl since the '99 season and we have been on a steady slide down. We needed a GREAT HIRE and we end up with a Kiffin and Dooley. The problem is Mike Hamilton.
I know very little about the power hierarchy @ the Univ of TN, but if u think MH is the start/end of the hiring process, you are wrong. There are likely more than a handful of people that must give the OK before a hire. BTW, his BB hire was just horrible. Look @ what that guy has done for the program. Doh!

If it was there, it would have shown, regardless of where he was at.

Whats up with the negativity surrounding our program? Are we the chicago cubs or something. Man im starting to think we are the South Carolina Gamecocks. Come on guys, have a little faith in the Big Orange.

To the negativistas the fan's board is just another game to be played. They could give a shooot less about UT sports...win or lose. It's all another game to them. That's not even counting the ones who are really not even casual fans of the VOLs...but are in fact fans of another team.

There will always be negativity in life, and this forum is just a microcosm of it. Hell, it'd be pretty boring if everyone was a Positive Pete. I say we need these doom-and-gloomers. They are seldom right, and provide a good joke when being fed a plate full of crow. If nothing else, every story needs an antagonist. Superman would have been pretty damn boring without Lex Luther.

It isnt bad to have questions about the program atm with the line problems on both sides we have. But there is a difference in wondering if or how we are going to overcome these problems and the negative crap that is spewed about some of the coaches and players.

To the 2nd poster on this thread talking about the sports animal my friends and I have quit listening to it because it is so negative about the football team. I am not talking about just having questions but ever since Dooley was hired and he didnt allow CLK access to the team and coaches they have been pissed and they need to get over it and move on.

I've noticed whenever anyone posts any of Dooley's stats at La Tech they are often accused of being negative. I don't think people are necessarily negative, it just those stats do not put Dooley in a positive light.

And everyone knows them, so why dwell on them.

Why wouldnt it be a toss up???? Its always a toss up with every team year in and year out. You dont know automatically which team from any conference is gonna perform the best, new coach or not. The freshman we have coming in could make a huge difference, something we will have to wait and see about.

There is a lot of ignorance in this post.

Well why dont u tell me what the future will hold then?? Please Mrs. Cleo, give your 2 cents.

It is not a toss up with every team, every year unless you mean that it's a toss up that Alabama for example will repeat at maybe 50/50 odds. Anyone who knows football knows that we flat out don't have the talent right now to compete on a week in, week out basis. On top of that, I'm not sure we have a coaching staff that can compete.
