Nationalized Voting

As with most things, there's a needed balance here. The framers of the constitution gave the Federal government access to such control and oversight for a reason--for a very specific fear that few here seem to be considering.
For a reason that’s never been conclusively proven in a court of law. There is no “massive voter fraud” that republicans allege, at least none that they’ve conclusively proven. Remember the audit in Phoenix that was supposed to uncover massive fraud? It ended up adding votes to Biden’s totals.

WTH are you talking about?

Just because congress CAN pass laws doesn't mean they should.

This should galvanize both the right and left into support for neutering the federal government.

Sadly, we have been doing the opposite of neutering the Federal government since 1861. The defense if slavery and Confederacy killed states right because they lost the moral PR war.

Trump’s “nationalizing” elections is now being explained that’s not exactly what he meant. That’s exactly what he said but his minions are now saying he just meant support for a Voter ID law.

That’s exactly what I meant by slinging outlandish 💩 on the wall to see what sticks and then backing down as he always does. It’s clear that’s his way of doing business. Stay tuned for the next bright shiny unconstitutional object tomorrow.

Requiring a valid ID or proof of citizenship to register to and to actually vote wouldn't be unconstitutional. It's just another federal power grab.

You're surprised that Trump's mastery of vocabulary is about three tiers below suspect? That's one of the main reasons I said:

...

I'll reserve my opinion on this matter until hearing exactly what is being proposed.

...

There is almost always a great chasm between what Trump said and what Trump thought he'd said.

So if Congress passes a bill to give all felons the ability to vote (as they can in some states), we are good with that?

That would be unconstitutional IMO unless the legislation only applied to those convicted of federal crimes.

But yeah I'd be good with that, I'm a once you do your time you get all your rights back type of guy.

What about those still in jail?

I just want to see how many people who are for Congress making universal, nationalizing rules now would be for a similar universal, nationalizing rule that allows those in prison to vote.

Or if Dems come back in power in 4 years and make the loosest rules available.

I'm not for additional universal national rules on elections and voter eligibility. We have numerous national laws already that cover eligibility to vote.

Just wait til the Ds get full control again. The Rs cant be mad if the Ds nationalize voting stuff to their liking since they opened this Pandora's box...

So everything has to be a political side-choosing contest? We can't just say we support this, but may or may not support that?

So, you're saying that Congress has not had the power to make election legislation, and that they have never made election legislation? It's a "Pandora's Box" that's never been opened?

The extent of nationalization with this admin (not just voting) is going to be a huge Pandora's box...

Perfectly fine...I know felons that have voted while in probation for the felony...only caveat is have is on violent felons....I also believe non violent felonies shouldn't follow you around for life but violent and sexual crimes should especially against kids

In some states, murderers serving life can vote....
