Pruitt did what he did to JG, not because of a bad play; he did it because JG wasn’t looking at him when he was chewing him out. It is time for you, and others to think that maybe if JG had been paying attention to Pruitt and the staff more often this season, maybe his performance history wouldn’t be where it is.

As a parent, you expect your kid to respect authority, and JG needed that lesson to hit home.

I understand what happened and why. What I was questioning was the reaction of "I would do worse to him after the game". That's awful. Even worse when you get told the kids is 9yo

If it had been my son I would have asked him why he didn't run the play called. They when he said something about his coach, told him to shut the **** up and listen to him.

I could understand some form of an issue if CJP had granted the face mask and drug him over to the bench with it. JG was looking away from him while he was chewing him out, si he turned hid head slightly toward hin to get his attention. ANYONE who thinks that very minor tug on the facemask is part of the reason this country has become soft. Might as well give the players flags and wrap them in bubble wrap.

Look, as a fan part of me liked what he did to JG, I probably wanted to do the same thing in that moment. But, Pruitt as the HC, really has to be better than that. Kid was straight up embarrassed on national TV. Say what you need to say, but save the histrionics for behind closed doors. If I was a parent of a player this would give me pause. JG has regressed badly, I don’t know the reason for it , but just last year everyone was praising him for his toughness. Kid plays hard, but he has likely seen his last snap at UT.

Showing up your qb.I don’t give a damn about tugging on his face mask ( he ain’t no Bobby Knight) but I am concerned about how he handles frustrations on the field. You have to back your kids, and take some responsibility.

Can we not normalize coaches getting physical like this with their players? thanks. There is a reason no NFL player would stand for something like that.

If you would treat your son any differently, then don't be surprised when his life tanks. My son would have gotten an earful from me for making a boneheaded selfish decision that destroyed his team's chance at a major upset. What CJP did was minor at best. It won't be remembered in a month. There was a similar incident last year involving Randy Sanders where he smacked the side of his players helmet with a ring. The player ran and literally cried that it hurt his feelings. It is football, not powder puff. Some cry we aren't tough enough, and some idiots think this is something too rough. What a fan base.

Vol. Good analysis and a very good Post. I do think Pruitt is learning from his mistakes. He is a better coach at this point than he was last year at this point. The azz chewing on national TV was a mistake that Pruitt will learn from. You never see the great coaches (excepting Saban and even he has calmed down a bunch) do this in public. With BM's TBI we need JG to get us to a bowl. Pruitt made up for this mistake by covering for JG in the press conference. It was awesome to watch a competitive game for the last two weeks. GBO

JG changed the play at the line, and it pissed Pruitt off as it should have. As a coach doing everything you can think of to make a play only to have it changed at the line, it SHOULD piss him off. JG then ignored him on the sideline... a second shot of disrespect for the coach. I agree with Pruitt's actions, and I hope every member of the team saw it and understood that you don't disrespect the coach on the playing field or anywhere else. If you do, you are GONE.. as I hope JG is.

If you aren’t mad about the face mask pull then what exactly does Pruitt have to be better at? Do you think that one play is why this happened? No, it’s his nonchalant I feel sorry for myself that JG walks around with and he’s needed to be chewed out before now.
