Nashville Autonomous Zone

Davidson County mayoral elections are kind of rigged at this point based on the county's makeup. In any given cycle, you're top 3 vote getters are probably going to be the progressive, the conservative (this includes a lot of yellow dog democrats and some republicans), and the black person. it seems like nobody gets a majority in the general election so the top two are in a runoff. One of those two is always going to be the progressive who will use fear of conservatism to get the black vote if facing a conservative and use fear of race politics to get the conservative vote if facing a black.

These are the occupy idiots 10 years down the road. They are as intimidating as a wet paper bag. They intimidate the weak and avoid real confrontation.

One of the final events in the occupy Nashville saga came when the cops showed up and arrested their leader on outstanding warrants for some kind of child abuse or exploitation charges. He kept getting his mug on TV and someone recognized him. Quality people there.

The best I can tell at least 1 tent was set up and some protesters stayed overnight. They renamed it the Ida B Wells plaza. No clue who that is. I guess technically in their minds they have accomplished autonomy. Gov Lee must have found a loophole to claim they weren’t actually camping and that’s why he allowed them to stay.

I'd say for that small amount of people he decided it wasnt worth the bad press to act. That group is more of a laughing stock than a nuisance.

Ida Wells was a writer who documented a lot of atrocities in the Jim Crow era. The guy whose statute they knocked over, Carmack, argued with her in editorial essays a lot, but moreso about giving women the vote than racial issues IIRC. Carmack was surely a segregationist like most of his southern contemporaries but it's not what he's known for. I think they knocked over the Carmack statute because of where it was and it gave them a good TV image. if they really wanted to knock over a confederate monument, there was one about 25 yards away, maybe less, but it would not have looked as radical on TV because it's in a recessed alcove on a wooded corner. if they wanted to go for maximum antagonism, they could have walked to the east side of the building and pulled down Jackson.

As for the NAZ, I guess the people who stayed can claim a win because, well, they stood their ground, the Gov can claim a win because it didn't turn into a shiz show. Just glad nobody got hurt.
