Myth #1 Busted

Ok, I'm going to attempt to be the voice of reason here and I know people are going to say I'm just trying to be negative. However don't look at that way. I just want to try and get to the truth of the matter.

First of all, yes I am happy to have Bryce Brown. I'm thrilled as a matter of fact. But looking at our entire recruiting class from top to bottom, did we really address our immediate needs? Obviously the big name recruits at the skill positions are "sexier" and probably go a long way in ranking our recruiting class. However We already had a good stable of RB's, yet we signed 2 more in Oku and Brown. Our biggest needs are QB, OL, and DL and yet we failed to make any kind of impact in recruiting at any of these positions.

it won't happen. Obviously 5150 isn't an Ivy leaguer and I really bet he doesn't have any extra talking parts...

JT5 is the man. I salute you sir.

Hear, hear. Give the man his due. A lot of so called experts had him at Oregon or elsewhere.

Who's crying? I simply asked a question. Regardless of our ranking, did we really address our most immediate needs?

So the 3.5 months is just an excuse and pulling in a top 10 class means absolutely nothing pushing forward to next year?

It is not like the ship had a solid keep when Lane got her.

Creer, Hardesty and Poole have definitely not accomplished anything to solidify their starting spots and outside of the secondary, where were we not weak? Getting a qb would have been nice, but evidently CLK didn't see one out there that fit what he needed. No need to bring in someone who won't work.

No we didn't address all of our needs. But we made a huge splash recruiting and grabbed some huge players that will take us to the next level in conjunction with next years class.

Not to mention how much better Oklahoma became when they signed the #1 RB in the country.

Honestly, I didn't feel as if RB was an area that we were weak. I thought it was QB and OL and DL's. Janzen Jackson was a great pickup! Berry will in all likelihood be gone after this year so he should fill that role nicely. Looking at our recruiting class, I see a lot of highly touted skill players but I also see the same glaring problems as last year.

I know everyone is shouting "top ten class, top ten class." I'm just saying people shouldn't fall too much in love with these rankings. They are way overrated. I still see the same glaring problems on our team that we had last year. No depth on the OL and DL and under performance at the QB position.

What was this staff thinking in signing these guys!?! Thanks, I was just about to waste my money and buy season tickets. No reason to now because it is obvious we are no better off than last year. You have saved me a lot of money.

You can't recruit whats not there. All the good QB's where gone besides a few that Kiffin felt was not a good fit. As he said why sign someone to set on the bench when you can wait a year and get what you want. And with us getting BB I am confident that Lane can get who he wants.

Very good point! I guess my main concern is that as thin as we are this year, it's going to get even worse next year. Even when Kiffin recruits a bunch of great OL and DL's next year, we're still looking at very VERY young group. Plus if we recruit a stud QB next year, will he start? I mean, if our current crop is that bad I would have to think so.

I agree that this class wasn't able to address some glaring needs as much as most on here would like...but think about what Kiffin had to do...

He had to get to know these kids and build a trusting relationship with them in 2 months whereas every other coach in this league had 1+ years to do that...

And Kiffin either lost or got rid of six 4 star recruits in the process...more than half of this class would not be here if Fulmer were the coach...and that includes two 5 stars and five 4 stars...

And last but not least, it was only Kiffin and Reaves for the first month of this process

So Kiffin built more than half of a top 10 class by himself in 2 months...that's impressive and makes me really excited for what's to come

Kiffin has delivered on his word quite a bit this season. If he thinks he can make a capable starter out of what we have, I believe him.

However, I think the Stephens' injury hurts that possibility.

You're right! I am very excited about the future of our program and so far Kiffin has pretty much done everything he said he's going to do. Here's the thing though, in order for Kiffin to continue this momentum in recruiting he is going to have to win and win quick. Yes all the hype and all the excitement over this staff is great but it will turn sour in a hurry if we don't at least have a solid winning season and win a bowl game (not just go to a bowl...win the game!) I'm not expecting SEC championships but he has to have moderate success and then build on that year in and year out. If we finish 7-5 this year, 6-6 next year, 5-7 the next year, etc. Recruits are not going to be interested. We HAVE to show consistent, measurable improvement each year while Kiffin is here.

I am still disappointed that UTdidn't land a couple of OL's but the players they did get were very good.

Our OL last year was a bunch of juniors and seniors. Maybe that's not the answer.
