Music City Bowl wants Vols (merged)

It’s not just that. But it goes both ways. Lower risk and greater reward for playing a ranked team like that .
I totally agree and have said, if it wasn't the last game I would be pumped to play anyone. I'm not saying that's right and everyone else should agree. And I'll be excited and will look forward to it, I mean if we end up with any of those 3 I'm not gonna cut my wrist. Lol.

Other than the Independence bowl in Shreveport, all the Power 5 team vs Power 5 team bowl games are basically the same if you're not in a NYE 6 bowl or the Playoffs. Personally, I'd much rather beat a crappy ACC team and get to 8 wins than lose to a motivated Big 10 team like Michigan or Minnesota
How do you know Michigan or Minnesota would be "motivated" to play us in the outback or gator. How do you know we wouldn't be the more motivated team. I am sick of hearing about people say that people that want the most competitive game are thumbing their nose at the music city or liberty. NO we aren't we just want to play the best team possible, we aren't scared of playing them and not counting it as a loss before we do. So folks on here that want to play in the music city or liberty fine, but don't go insulting folks that want a bigger matchup. Some would rather play liberty or Louisville than a Michigan or Minnesota, that fine but don't flame others that would prefer a better matchup. Again I am happy were going bowling, but I will not apologize for wanting to play a team ranked higher than us. GBO!!!!!!

No reason to be sick about something you have zero control over. I love how we finished, but we're not "back" yet. And all you guys that want a bigger matchup with a ranked team that only have a couple of loses to some decent teams, that's fine. But when we lose and you come here talking crap about getting beat....I'll be handing out Waffle House invitations. Lol.

Excuse me sick was just a figure of speech. I actually don't care if you want to play Liberty it's your right, just like it's mine to have a different view. I haven't talked down anybody's thinking that way unless they start on my view. I just look at it different and folks should respect folks thoughts without some smart arse response. Not saying that towards you just folks in general on both sides of the Bowl coin. I have been a fan 50 years, you will never here me talking crap about getting beat. If we lose we lose, that how I roll. Now I may not be happy about how we play, or maybe even disappointed about how we lost. But I am a grown man I can handle it, we have beaten plenty of average to below average teams but if it's another one I will still be happy we are going to a bowl, there are no guarantees no matter who the opponent. But I won't lose sleep and I will still be a Vol the next day. Competitors like competition, wanting to play the best opponent isn't saying were back, it's fighting to get back. I am not going to apologize for wanting to play the best possible opponent. GBO!!!!!

Excellent post. I agree. We need to play the best opponent available. Everybody thought Miami would clean out clock in the 1986 Sugar Bowl. How many times have you seen us loose games when we played it safe and played not to loose? We have fans that think the same way. We need to give this coaching staff and these players the opportunity to show their best. Who cares if we fall to a higher ranked team? I want to see how far this team has progressed.

No one asked for an apology.

I care if we fall to higher ranked opponent. I want to win. I don't think we're good enough yet to beat them. Its just my opinion.

But hey, there's no guarantee that we won't fall to a team not ranked at all, so I guess it makes sense to go ahead and play someone we have a less of a chance to beat because it will be a better loss, and a good loss is better than a bad win.

So used to losing, F it, let's lose some more.

I didn't flame anyone... I live in sav, so Jax is super close and I'd def go regardless of opponent. I went to the Iowa game. And coincidentally, I'll be visiting family in West Tennessee around New Years, so I'll be near Memphis and could go to my first Liberty Bowl. Again, regardless of opponent. This season has been so up and down that id personally like to wrap it up with a beat down on a next door ACC team. Who knows? Could be FSU in music City.

Had a conversation with someone associated with the MC bowl in the last 48 hours. They are 80% sure they are getting the Vols vs. Louisville. Also added that they don't think that the Liberty Bowl will get an SEC team this year. They also noted that there is also a possibility Vols are in Tampa, but that it is more likely we see the Big Orange in Nashville.

No one asked for an apology.
I wasn't giving you one, I see you take things literally so I will have to cut back on my uses of figure of speech. I will admit that the apologize comment was misleading but unintentional. LOL! GBO!

I never said you did, never mentioned your name. You have good reasons to feel that way, I was talking about folks that put down other people that have different views on where they want the Vols to play. I totally understand your reasons for wanting it there even if it's not where I would prefer. At the end of the day I am glad we are in a bowl period. GBO!

How are we ranking them? Going by the bowl selection order where they usually bid in order of conference ranking, it looks like this...unless I'm wrong.

I also realize some of the lower bowl games (Belk, Liberty, Independance, ect) bid on which teams fan will travel best among other things so some of the lower teams may end up elsewhere, but here:

SEC Bowl Teams
#1 LSU (8-0)
#2 Georgia (7-1)
#3 Florida (6-2)
#4 Alabama (6-2)
#5 Auburn (5-3)
#6 Tennessee (5-3)
#7 Texas A&M (4-4)
#8 Kentucky (3-5)
#9 Miss St (3-5)
#10 Missouri (3-5)

CFP
Peach - LSU
Fiesta - Georgia, LSU

NYD
Sugar - Georgia, Florida
Orange - Florida, Alabama, Auburn
Cotton - Florida, Alabama, Auburn

SEC Tie-In
#0 Citrus - Alabama, Auburn,

SEC Pool of Six

#1 Outback - Tennessee, Texas A&M
#2 TaxSlayer - Tennessee, Texas A&M
#3 Music City - Kentucky, Miss St, Missouri
#4 Texas - Kentucky, Miss St, Missouri
#5-6 Belk/Liberty - Kentucky, Miss St, Missouri

I'm not sure if they look at CFP ranking in which Auburn bumps Bama out of the NYD6. If Georgia beats LSU and both get in the playoff, everyone gets a bump and UT is darn near guaranteed the Outback.

They base bowl selections on the teams’ overall records, not its conference record.

Well said. This team needs a bowl victory and it won't come against a ranked team.

It's a near-miracle that we get to be picky about which bowl we play in considering it wasn't all that long ago that we'd have been grateful for ANY bowl. Something in a warm state would be super, but, really, I don't think it's a good look for a program on the comeback to be snobbish about any invitation.

I just want the Vols to win their game and finish with a sweet 8-5 record.
This guy gets it.

Elaborate. I thought the Sugar takes #1 SEC team unless playoff team, Orange bowl takes #2 or #3, and so on. I can remeber a few championship games where the team would have gotten the bid to the Sugar with a worse record and AP ranking if they would have won.

I keep seeing like CBS did today predictions showing us in Nashville for a bowl. It's like a self fulfilling prophecy, the more they say it the more we'll end up there. The Vols want to be in Florida for a bowl people!!!!

Since the SEC started the Pool of 6 set-up five years ago, no team has played in a pool of 6 bowl more than once. So even if MCB wants Tennessee, the SEC may not agree because UT was there just a few years ago.

Interesting point, though we've also played in the TaxSlayer Bowl at the end of the 2014 season and the Outback Bowl the next year. Unfortunately, this line of thinking would have them landing in Houston/Charlotte/Memphis for sure.

MCB would be horrible. Nashville isn't a football town unless you are a visiting NFL team and out number Titan fans 2:1. And Vandy is just .... horrible too.
Yeah buddy, Nashville only drew 400,000 fans for the NFL draft....sure it's not a football town
