Music City Bowl wants Vols (merged)

It's a near-miracle that we get to be picky about which bowl we play in considering it wasn't all that long ago that we'd have been grateful for ANY bowl. Something in a warm state would be super, but, really, I don't think it's a good look for a program on the comeback to be snobbish about any invitation.

I just want the Vols to win their game and finish with a sweet 8-5 record.

Catch me up. What makes you think that we can beat 9-3 Michigan, 10-2 Penn St., or 10-2 Minnesota?

I don't think any of those teams are all that good, but if I'm being honest we're not all that good either. I started looking at the records of those teams, who they'd lost to, who they beat and while its not that impressive, its more impressive than ours.

Catch me up. I would love to feel as confident as you and the others.
I'm not confident we'd beat any of those 3 either. They do all look beatable to me as I feel like our defense matches up well vs those offenses. I think Penn St is the best of the 3. Sorry for butting in, couldn't help myself:)

The Music City Bowl is a higher ranked bowl than Taxslayer, Nashville much better destination than Jacksonville other than the temp
How are we ranking them? Going by the bowl selection order where they usually bid in order of conference ranking, it looks like this...unless I'm wrong.

I also realize some of the lower bowl games (Belk, Liberty, Independance, ect) bid on which teams fan will travel best among other things so some of the lower teams may end up elsewhere, but here:

SEC Bowl Teams
#1 LSU (8-0)
#2 Georgia (7-1)
#3 Florida (6-2)
#4 Alabama (6-2)
#5 Auburn (5-3)
#6 Tennessee (5-3)
#7 Texas A&M (4-4)
#8 Kentucky (3-5)
#9 Miss St (3-5)
#10 Missouri (3-5)

CFP
Peach - LSU
Fiesta - Georgia, LSU

NYD
Sugar - Georgia, Florida
Orange - Florida, Alabama, Auburn
Cotton - Florida, Alabama, Auburn

SEC Tie-In
#0 Citrus - Alabama, Auburn,

SEC Pool of Six

#1 Outback - Tennessee, Texas A&M
#2 TaxSlayer - Tennessee, Texas A&M
#3 Music City - Kentucky, Miss St, Missouri
#4 Texas - Kentucky, Miss St, Missouri
#5-6 Belk/Liberty - Kentucky, Miss St, Missouri

I'm not sure if they look at CFP ranking in which Auburn bumps Bama out of the NYD6. If Georgia beats LSU and both get in the playoff, everyone gets a bump and UT is darn near guaranteed the Outback.

Yea, I don't know but I'd think Minnesota would be the most motivated and "out to prove something" than the other two. Who knows, we might be better than I think and beat all three and if we do play one of them, I will no doubt be excited.

But Ill stick with, if I had my choice it wouldn't be any of them. I'll take Wake Forrest, beat them like a rented mule and talk about how I wish we had played someone better. Instead of the other way around. :)

I think a lot of people are underestimating Tennessee's improvement over that 2nd half of the season. They had terrible QB play with mediocre run game. They were good in most other areas. When the QB play improved (or dare I say the WRs made plays), they looked really good. With a good QB this team would look entirely different. I think they match up with any team on the list. It all depends on which QB shows up that day, IMO.

Everyone is pointing out the 7-5 record, but I look at it and say if they played those first two games at the end of the season, it would be 9-3. Most of these guys are just box score analyst and don't even watch the team.

If Tennessee goes to the Liberty or Music City Bowl, that, to me, is like a warm plate of pee or seeing grandma crap on the floor at Sunday supper. No thanks.

I'd rather go play in a Florida bowl against a better quality team. Let's play Michigan, Penn State, or Minnesota and if we lose that's acceptable. It's better than going to Nashville and beat up on a pathetic Louisville team. Or, God forbid, going to Nashville and playing like crap and losing to a very subpar team. I'd rather play a better team in Florida and hope we are competitive. I want to see how we measure up now heading into next season.

I agree. I predicted we'd go 10-3 this year and I think we'd be right there had 3 things happened, Bituli being available and healthy the 1st 2 games, Thompson just being available the 1st 2 and a bit better QB/WR play. Oh well, here's to stomping a little 10s a$$ in a bowl to lead all to dreaming of what could have been!

The only hope we would have if we play our normal game is that the team we get of those three is simply unmotivated to be there.....USF vs. OK.

I agree and that's why I would guess Minnesota would be the most motivated. But who knows.

Yeah Clawson deserves a beatdown for getting Fulmer fired and that anemic offense in 08

Speaking for myself and somebody that would rather play in the outback or gator, I will be happy for us no matter where we go. But I wouldn't call it snobbish for wanting to get picked as high as we can. I always welcome to best challenge, that's just how I roll. GBO!!!!!!

Even though Michigan is clearly better, motivation matters a lot in bowl games. And I think we'd have the best chance against them. Still wouldn't expect a win, but at least it wouldn't be a bad loss. Would hate to risk losing to some ****** acc team. Especially one without a head coach.

other than BC did someone else get fired in the ACC ?

If we beat Michigan, we might get Harbough fired.

I get that and won't argue it, but at this point if I'm picking my preferred opponent by who I'd rather lose to, I don't really care.

It’s not just that. But it goes both ways. Lower risk and greater reward for playing a ranked team like that .
