most overrated vols

Byron Moore was pretty over-hyped this past offseason.

Not saying he won't be productive in the future, but lots of people just pegged him as an automatic starter at CB.

Michael Munoz, Marcus Nash, Jason Allen, Will Bartholomew, always were in my opinion.

Nash benefitted from 4 years with Peyton, but Munoz was an all-american and Bartholomew led the way for the school's all time leading rusher. How were they overrated?

He was a very good blocking FB.

I'm with you Justin. This dude just has something against fullbacks. He also said Will Bartholomew was overrated. I guess he thinks it's still 1950 and your fullback is your stud runner, that or he played for Coach Williams.

Wasn't Jabari Davis some big stud player coming out of HS? Ehh, his TD won us the Miami game in '03, so I can't really harbor hate for that.

I may get roasted, but the Kevin's (Burnett and Simon), imo, were two of the most overrated defenders we've had.

see, i don't remember him being a "beast". i thought he was good, but not a "beast".

maybe, it's because i'm thinking too much about the games with florida.

Little was an All-American, SEC defensive player of the year and is 2nd of UT's career sack list. I'd say overrated is a bit strong for him

No need to don the nomex but I've got to ask; based on what? Both these guys showed enough at UT to be drafted. Consider:

Kevin Simon- unfortunately was haunted by injuries (knee in '04, broken ankle in '02) Still, in his healthy '03 season led UT in tackles and was tied for sacks including an Al Wilsonesque 16 tackle day against FL. Drafted by Redskins.

Kevin Burnett- 2 time team captain, 2003 SEC Coaches All SEC 2nd team and '04 Playboy preseason AA. Still playing in the NFL.

Yeah, that's why I said I would get roasted. I know they were good, but for the pub that they continually received, you would have thought they were the most dominant linebackers we've ever had. One can be overrated, and still be an excellent player (see Honey Badger). I simply think this was the case for these two linebackers.

If either of these guys were getting Heisman talk (like the Syrup Squirrel in some circles) I suppose I could see this point of view. And actually your observation that overrated can still be applied to a good player is quite valid. I guess I just don't remember there being any more hype than they probably deserved.*

*One caveat, especially with Simon. (though Burnett had injury problems too, including going OFTS in game one of '02) Fans LOVE the "If only so and so were out there." angle. Some people on here right now could look at you all glazed-eyed and try to convince you that if Hunter, Bray & Poole had been healthy all year we'd be undefeated. Now, the argument isn't even the veracity of these claims but that absentee (or even "playing while injured") players are often bestowed nigh magical powers that would have "made the difference" if they'd been healthy. Not everyone gets caught up in this mindset but some do. Perhaps you recall some chatter of that nature with Simon & Burnett that's leaving you with the "overrated" impression?

Overrated maybe, but I bet most on here could find a place on this year's team for the majority of these players.
