most overrated vols

Yes, being an AA when the best people at judging talent (NFL scouts) think you aren't worth even a 7th round pick means you're overrated.

This. And add in the fact he wore knee braces on knock knees and couldnt keep his pants up over his azz and you understand why he wasnt drafted.

his body was done. What about his college performance shows he was overrated? Did you predict something greater the AA for him?

Bahahaha thts so funny. The man only won us a national championship I love Peyton and all tht mess but tee accomplished alot more than peyton at ut example: Beatin Florida and winning the national championship

See..thats exactly what I am talkin about. The team won the NC not Tee. All he did was not totally suck. But to act like he was the reason we won that title is ludicrous. Our very own Greg McElroy. But hey I like Tee, I just think he was overated. Good yes, great no.

You are showing your ignorance of Vol lore. I am not suprised. Here is the story. When Stewart lost the QB battle as a freshman to Peyton he saw the writing on the wall, realizing he was never going to play he then transferred to TAM. As a senior the 98 season he almost singlehandedly beat Kansas st in the big 12 championship game (IIRC), who were ranked higher than us. The upset paved the way for the UT Vols to play in the NC game.

If it wasn't for Brandon Stewart, we don't play for the NC. That's a fact. SIAP

Actually, that is wrong. Going into that day UCLA, Kansas State, and Tennessee were undefeated. UCLA had already lost earlier in the day so we were in regardless of what happened in the big 12 title game. Florida State would have been the team out. Besides, we were #1 going into that weekend so we would have been in regardless.

You don't recall correctly. I am aware of who he is, where he transfered, and what he accomplished while there. Tennessee was ranked 1st in the bcs for the final third of the season. Took the #1 spot after the UAB game(OSU lost to Mich St.).

Next time make sure you have a clue before you call someone ignorant.

If I was wrong, I wasn't wrong by much jerk. I do have a clue. I recalled that Kst was ranked ahead of us going into the Conf title games, if I was wrong so be it, but you were a smartazz first. Have a nice day Richard.:hi:

There was a whole lot more uncertainty going into that day than you remember. It was not set in stone that we were getting in.

You called me ignorant then followed that with "I am not supprised." How did you expect me to react?

I think I just took your "wrong" comment a little too hard. I apologise. I am still pretty sure that whether or not we were getting in the NC game was in debate before that day. I thought we were 3rd going in.

No worries. I suppose we both could've been more civil.

If he deserved all of his honors an NFL team would've given him a shot. His body wasn't in that bad of condition. Once again, he was very good, but definitely overrated.

Ronnie Pillow was a beast in high school. Played at Columbia Central. Still wasn't as good as our (Franklin high) RB, Fred Lane but Fred didn't have the grades to go to a D1 school.
Brian Darden was so over hyped and such a huge disappointment.

Lane went to lambuth right?

No, we were first. I am positive. We became number 1 a couple of weeks before and never looked back.

OMG...how did I ever forget the worst Vol starter I ever watched? "ERIC PARKER"...was the worst vol wr I ever had to suffer through watching play. And we kept going to him and he couldnt catch a cold, then when he did a defender would look at him and hed go down.

Parker was a reserve WR, he's biggest talent was as a punt returner.
I think he holds some UT records as a PR.

Kind of strange to have a return man that can't catch a cold.

This line of thinking always confounds me. By this logic wouldn't basically every player at every position on the '98 team be at least one of the best in UT history? So Trent Dilfer was the best QB in the league in 2000 since "he" led the Ravens to a SB victory? Whether your intent or not that's the argument you're presenting.

Remember, it's entirely possible that the best player to ever play in any team sport might never so much as sniff a championship if the team around him isn't good enough.

This is no dig at Tee but that he won a NC or beat FL doesn't, nor shouldn't, square with the what the rest of the team, defense in particular, accomplished. In fact, a look at Tee's stats vs FL would not bode well for your point of view.

Looking at numbers only tells you so much. His stats were ugly the first two games that year, but he saved our @sses, and arguably saved us from starting the season 0-2 with his legs with his 55 yard scramble against 'Cuse, and his overtime scramble against FL. We also didn't call many "easy completion" plays. It was run, run throw play action deep.

Tee saved our butts when the games were on the line.

Just to add to this topic...

Eric "Up the Middle + Son of Juicy" Locke.

I'm a Tee fan actually but if we must point out individual players a certain linebacker I know had x2 the influence on the outcome of the '98 FL game than Tee did. (For that matter TN's entire off was under 250yds for the game)

In the end it's not even about Tee...it's the idea that "winning" is a function of this guy vs that guy. Winning (in football) is team, individual accomplishments are just that. Go back to the Dilfer reference. Man's got a SB ring but was let go the year after winning it. There's an epiphany to be had in that if you look...
