Well according to NFL Draft experts, Drew Lock is in a whole different echelon than Will Grier. And honestly, if you watch either of them at all - it's pretty evident.

Top QB Prospects for 2019 NFL Draft:

As for the WRs, I'm not sure either team has a viable NFL option. David Sills, once again, is good in a Big12 system. But he's hardly a remarkable athlete - I'm not sure his savvy will be enough to carry him at the next level. Missouri has a much more athletic wideout room.

I'm completely fine with your disagreement, and would welcome some evidence that backs up your claim.
I'm not disagreeing with who the better draft prospect is. But just for conversation's sake I have to say I don't put much stock in draft prospects when it comes to what QB I'd rather face. Especially when factoring in that our secondary has gained some serious experience since game one. The draft list you posted has Stidham ahead of Grier as well. Again, still think Locke may give us a lot of problems. Just don't think draft prospects matter all that much when it comes to gameday.

I'm hoping we can do the ole "pass early to run late" scheme. would love to get up on them and then establish a run game

I feel like this game plan was the death knell of SO many UT opponents under Dooley. Would be nice to return that favor.

As long as Lock keeps making decisions like this I like our chances. Seriously who was he throwing to?

Gotta pull a rabbit out of our hat on this one.

If Mizzou get their points (37.5 ppg), we likely lose. So that's Order of Business #1. Gotta carve 14 off of that average. But how? I'll just cut to the chase here and say that the UT defense has to have its' best game of the year.

If we can get there, now we gotta score 24+. Again, but how? Mizzou has a good run defense. We need to run to keep the Mizzou offense off the field. Our best shot is to throw the ball, but that lengthens the game, which plays into Mizzous's hands, so....

Throw on 1st down. Slants, outs, TE, Chandler, whatever. Stay away from screens; Mizzou will eat those up. Get to 2nd and 4 or less. Now you can run on 2nd down, and even if it's no gain, you have a manageable 3rd down. And you have to do this over and over, for 4 quarters.

At some point, Mizzou will adjust. At that point, you go long, and say screw the clock management. Did you come to win?

We need to win turnovers, and get a big play on ST, and a win in the kicking game would help. The deeper on their side we can keep the Mizzou offense, the better.

UT can win this game. But to do so, they will have to play their best game of the year. Anything less, and Vandy is a play-in game for bowl eligibility.

Go Vols.

At the college level which is where we meaning UT will be playing them, Grier is a better player that we will play this yr than Lock. That is the comparison. I do not care where they go in the pros. The receivers that WVU are head and shoulders above the Missouri receivers. The only thing that Missouri has better than WVU is at running back and that is close. I never stated pro potential at all and that will be to what team they go to as it apples to Mayfield,Rosen and Darnold this yr.

You all realize they also lead the league in pass attempts defended??? This is the same logic that lead to people to believe UGA had the 3rd best pass defense in the country. In reality, no one passed on them. Look at QBR defended and YPA.

Yeesh, does anyone teach stats anymore?

That's fair man. I watched WVU vs. Iowa State which may be clouding my opinion. As bad as Stidham has looked this year at times - Grier was 10x worse than him throughout that whole game. He didn't look division 1. He looked awful in the 2nd half vs. Texas Tech game I saw as well.

Locke I've probably seen a little more of, but his lows just haven't been nearly that low.

No worries, I gotcha.

I respectfully disagree, but I suppose 2 people can see different things in this scenario.

I see you're in WV, so it's also understandable you have a very high opinion of Grier. The media there is the opposite of a lot places - in that they do nothing but praise even the most mediocre of players and prop them up unbelievably high. I could only imagine Grier is getting close to statue status in that state for their coming 8-3 season.

They lead the league is pass attempts defended because they suck at defending the pass. Lmao. What’s the point?

I am not a wv fan per se but I like to see them do well. I do not listen to the pro wv press hear as I do not listen to some of the stuff that comes out of here. I was born in Tennessee and my whole family went there and my cousin that just passed away was a starting tight end there in the 70’s. Anyway, Grier is a good qb in a real pass friendly offense. Pro player somebody will take him and like him or not he has the moxie. Lock is good but you rush him he is very shaky as you look at all the interceptions he has thrown. Living in wv and being from wv is different as like our opinions on the qbs in question. Also, please do not be upset if wv is 10-1 not your 8-3 prediction. I just wish ut played wv another yr not this yr when I went to the game. Grier would kill it at UT also.

Will Grier 11/15 100yds. 6.7 avg. 1 INT 16.6 QBR - vs. Iowa State
Will Grier 28/41 332yds. 8.1 avg. 3 INT 65.3 QBR - vs. Kansas

Grier has thrown 8 interceptions (the same number as Lock). The difference is Will Grier plays in the weakest league, the Big12, and Mizzou has played Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, etc...

Lock isnt in the Heisman race.

To be fair, unless your name is Tua, you aren't in the Heisman race - an award that goes to good players on teams with a good record. Mizzou does not have a good record. Give Mizzou a 7-1 record and Lock is "in the race" in the same sense that Will Grier is, which would be news to me.

Grier is a better College QB than Lock.....Lock has more physical talent and upside. WVU WR are better than ours.....We have two RB better than WVU and a better OL.

I understand the struggle.... Born and lived in Knoxville till I was 35. Proud grad of UT and under 5 blanckets freezing in Orleans, IN. I have had to go watch non UT games at Bloomington and down in Lexington just to get a football fix on a bye week.

Regarding Grier vs Lock, Grier is #3 in passing efficiency (180.7), and #7 in completions (.690), whereas Lock is #44 in both efficiency (142.6) and completions (.625). Having said that, Lock has faced better competition (Al. & Ga.) than Grier. Regarding team defense, the Vols are #51 in scoring and #43 in total D, whereas Mo. is #70 scoring and #73 total. For comparison, Ky is #11 in scoring and #18 for total D.

The point is you look at EFFICIENCY or QBR, NOT gross numbers. Bad, bad use of stats. It would also lead you to believe Navy and GT have the best run games in the country.

They looked slow on turf vs Vandy, I'm curious to see but I think we'll be the bigger, faster team Saturday, not sure about the strongest, smarter hungrier parts just yet!
