Milton moving forward

Where is Jackson? Is he injured? I haven't heard anything about him being unavailable.

Injured. Not sure his status. He hurt his shoulder in the last game he got in. He was shown wearing what looked like a sling under a jacket on the sidelines last week against Mizzou. I wonder if Heupel addresses that this week since he should now be the #2.

Oakland Raiders of the early 70’s did.

Jim Plunket era wasn't it? That aside, I honestly think if Javelin Joe throws 14 TDs this weekend, we got people here who will still find fault with him. Probably even blame him for RBs who fumble the ball after 20yds runs..

He had several overthrows saturday, I still don’t trust him as the starter. He just
does not respond well under true pressure in a game. JMO

Pressure Saturday night... putrid defensive play happening and you’re coming in cold for a lost cause that just shockingly took out your brother’s knee and you’re sharing his pain.

Let me be the first to demand that Milton be benched in favor of Navy Shular. His name alone should be enough to beat the Commodores.

I know everyone has an opinion about him, but dude stuck around, is respected by his peers, avoided stirring up drama, and while yes he got replaced as starter, let’s not forget he won that job in the first place. He is going to start on Saturday and I hope he does really well and is a great one for us going forward. People saying he won’t be the guy next year are assuming the other options will be better at that point, which isn’t really a fair assumption. I hope Nico is amazing too and one day leads us to great seasons. If he ends up being the guy next year, so be it, but at this point in time he hasn’t played a single practice in our system or with our guys. Assuming Milton will fail because of how he looked when they pulled him last year, or because Nico will for sure be up to speed and performing better when next season starts is way premature.

I think Milton will have the guys ready to go Saturday. A 10 Win regular Season is on the line and we have a chance to make the Sugar Bowl or Cotton Bowl. Assuming the Defense doesn’t act like a bunch of Divas again I think we smack Vandy around Saturday night

Vandy has the 75th rushing D

Tennessee needs to lean on the run game. Three backs, along with Milton and Fant (if needed) Tennessee should be more than capable.

It would be a better plan if Tennessee had better running backs. All year with the exception of a couple of plays, these backs only get what the defense gives them. Sampson is the only one of the 3 backs with SEC speed but he is not strong enough to run through any tackles either.

i hope he does great and builds momentum going into the bowl game and next season........but, if you are going to the game and sitting within 25 rows of the field, you probably should wear a helmet.

I think we actually run well, but you still have a point about our backs not being on par with most schools who have offense built on the running game. I do like our guys and think they are good but not elite. Hope they keep getting better. A lot of offenses open up the passing game with the running game, and I’ve seen Heupel comment that the offense starts with that here too, but I’m not so sure. It almost seems like how we spread the field with our receivers opens up the running game more than the other way around, but I’m no expert.

Tennessee gains 4.6 per rush and Vandy has the 75th rushing D.

Wasn’t saying lean on the run game for your explosive plays.

Lean on your run game because your capable and their susceptible. “You” take more time. Tennessee runs more than they pass anyway. I say run more this week. Thus forcing Vandy to open the back end allowing Milton more of a chance when he does pass.

I'm excited for him, glad we have him and pulling like a mofo for him!

Vandy will come in with the same attitude SC did, nothing to lose!

Milton is lucky to have Squirrel White on this team. Almost impossible to overthrow him.
With Bru possibly out, I could see Milton making Tillman more a weapon…funny as that would’ve sounded before the season. When Milton completes passes, the receiver tends to catch it in stride with a full head of steam. At the next level, that ups the YAC and their impact. Coming back to the ball and outfighting the DB for practical jump-balls not so much. All contingent on accuracy of course. That lost him the starter’s job last season along with totality decision making in the up-tempo. That clicks and this offense advances imo.

Is there a way to teach Milton a little finesse? John Elway also had a cannon but could pull it back when needed. Milton looks like he is throwing it as hard as he can on every throw.

Yes - accuracy and decision making for sure, and I would add throwing way to hard most of the time. Maybe that's due to lack of touch, or it could be just the way he reacts to pressure situations and does not thrust himself to make the 'normal' throws in tight coverages (that would be my first guess). He tries to act cool but under pressure often loses his composure. Prime example was at the end of Ole Miss game when he ran out of bounds without even attempting to throw. I would call a lot of designed runs for him and even allow him to lower his shoulder and run someone over when he gets nervous - that could relax him and make the throwing game easier ...

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think we can win with Joe at QB and our defense. 9-4.[/QUOTE
I respectfully disagree with that stinkin thinkin. We don't go from CFP shoe in, to a 3 game losing streak. Something isn't being said about what was going on in the locker room leading up to the SC game. Hooker was way off and guys were simply "unavailable"? Nah, whatever it is, it's gonna get dealt with promptly.
