Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

I just learned something reading the bio on Wiki about Leach.

I've been following the early days of Gruden, Kiffen and now Leach. All were influenced by the same offense that BYU used in the 90's. Leach graduated from BYU in 1983 and though never played football followed BYU success. Norm Chow was the OC and Mike Holmgren was the QB coach. Lane Kiffin learned from Chow and Gruden under Holmgren at Green Bay.

All three, Leach, Kiffin and Gruden have coached outstanding QB's...

Leach - Tim Couch and Josh Heupel (Oklahoma)
Kiffin - Matt Leinhart and John David Booty (both 3,000 yd passers)
Gruden - Randle Cunningham and Brett Farve (1992 GB)

Mike Leach was the OC under Hal Humme at Kentucky. Humme's offense style was influenced by LyVell Edwards the BYU HC who had Chow as the OC and yes Holmgren as the QB coach.

Of course Lane Kiffen learning under Chow and his dad works under Gruden

Small world after all....
You know what that means? Hamilton is going to throw 100 billion dollars at Homgren to be our next coach. It only makes sense.

Tim Couch is a bust, and so is Josh Heupel. His only good QB so far is Graham Harrell.

Doesn't that actually lend credibility to the argument? He was actually able to turn them into All American Heisman candidates.

I think Washington is going to throw about $4 million at Leach and that's where he's going. Winless or not, he said himself that one of his idols was Don James (greatest Washington coach of all-time). He's a west coast guy and he's Mormon as well. Seattle is the perfect fit for him.

Not too mention it's easier to win in the Pac-10 compared to the SEC.

Leach to Washington.

Kiffin is going to Washington...He already expressed strong interest in it..If not him then Chris Peterson...Leach won't land anywhere near the west coast.

Watch and see. The sports talk radio in Seattle is completely focused on Leach. It's clear that they are going to throw a ton of money at him and UW is one of the richest universities in the country.

He's making like $1.75 million at Texas Tech. They can certainly get him for around $3.5+ million. I think they might be offering $4 million.

Oh, and Leach wanted the job back in 2004.

if we hire a current HC or former HC, we need one who has proven that he can win championships. ML has not done it.

Kiffin isn't going to go anywhere until someone takes the UT job or he is told he isn't getting it. Kiffin wants the Tennessee job badly.

I believe ML is well on his way to being in one this year...

Time will tell. I just don't believe that Leach is a good fit at UT. Her personality will not be looked on fondly in these parts. My prediction for Leach would be 2-3 years max at UT.

Whoever the next coach is will have to deal with Satan, Meyer, Miles, Spurrier and Richt (and the next AU coach) in the SEC. Let's minimize our risks.

Just say no to Leach.

Credible source? Verified by who?

I just read a funny article by Climer it said that this Butch Davis rumor of him being the number one guy was started by him by accident. He was on a radio show and said Davis should be the number one, then he was quoted by another journalist as saying Davis is the number one source and finally some journalist called him to ask who his sources were. In the end, he knew nothing said as much in his article printed yesterday. So, the sources thing is a little foggy right now.

Dave Hooker, KNS in this mornings Go Vols Xtra section.
"Tn. has tabbed NC coach BD as the leading candidate to replace ousted CPF, multiple sources have told the KNS." Story has nothing but love for BD.

So you are saying we have to hire Dennis Ericson, Bill McCartney, Bobby Ross, Dennis Erickson, Don James, Gene Stallings, Bobby Bowden, Tom Osborne, Steve Spurrier, Lloyd Carr, Bob Stoops, Larry Coker, Jim Tressel, Nick Saban, Mack Brown, Urban Myer, or Les Miles?

I don't think any of these guys are even on our list.

I was holding back my impression of leach till after the OSU game since they were No.#8 in the country. No doubt he has TT going on all cylinders. You would've ever guessed Teas Tech No.#2 in the country?

Othjer than that I think Lane Kiffin has the right mind set for the offense but not sure about carrying the full load right now. Now if he can bring his dad Monte along...that's a different story.

so you are saying that those are the only coaches who have won conference championships?

leach has a 67% overall win rate at TT, including his 10-0 run this year. that is comparable to fulmer's record this decade, only fulmer coached in the SEC.

not only has ML never won his CC, before this year he has never finished first in his division.

before this year, he had never won 10 games in a season.

he has 3 top 20 finishes, and zero top 10 finishes.

OK with me if others consider this "good enough", but i think we need to do better. a lot better.
