This is just something put out by his agent to garner a raise. PJ Fleck put out the same statement today. There no way Michigan is looking at a guy that has not had a winning season in two years.
I find this quote from a Scout article interesting. I hope ole Marcus is full of it.
Former Michigan Wolverine Marcus Ray who was on Jones' staff at Central Michigan.
"Michigan is a dream job for Butch," said Ray. I worked for him. He looked me in my face and said I would work there and where Rich was the coach there."

Seems you're biased against him if that comment bothered you in the least.
I think at the time he said it, that was probably true. Once a different marque team (UT) gave him the HC chance tho, I think he jumped in head first with a full commitment.
While his W/L ratio has not been so great his first 2 years here, ADs look at other things as well. CBJ is WELL RESPECTED for what he has done for our program, among pretty much every professional I have read. About the only place lacking real understanding and a realistic respect for what has been done is mostly here on VN. He has clearly shown he can build a PROGRAM, not just a team - that was every bit as much of a disaster (if not far more so) than Michigan is now. With his clear capability in recruiting and deep in state ties there, they would be foolish not to strongly consider him for the position - though I agree he would not be first choice.
The question I have is why would CBJ leave? UT is the type of program that you can build a legend around, with big money, great facilities and a large fanatical fan base. He is only in the second year of a major turn around, so he has taken the hardest blows already, with the likelyhood that it will get easier to get Ws going forward. Sure his pay is not where he hopes it will be but its hard to see him risking leaving UT for another $500k a year. And right now, no one is going to spend $5-6 mill a year on him. Granted, he is smart and so will entertain the hype in order to get some more money for himself and his staff but much like a true sophomore player, he will wait till his 4th year to maximize his stock in the draft.
And in 2015 if we go 8-4 or in 2016 if we are at 10-2 or better, we should be very seriously concerned if he is still at that pay level. But that is not going to happen. At that point, they will lock him in and up him to $5 mill a year range.
I'm not biased against him at all, in fact several would say I wear orange tinted glasses, but that comment was freaking ridiculous and he deserves any backlash he gets for saying it. It's harder for fans like myself to convince more skeptical Vol fans to believe what he's preaching when he rattles off nonsense like that.
I guess we disagree what constitutes "nonsense"...if he takes the program to where we hope, others' definition will change also. "Best staff in America" didn't faze me and this?...even less. He reaches 10 wins and he can start talking about recruiting Martians. :alien:
If you want to argue that he's laying the foundation of a team, then fine. What gets me are the people thinking he deserves a raise or credit for his first two years. Butch's best asset is that he knows how to please the right people.
This! The Big 10 area is in decline in population and certainly as a power FBS football conference. Leaving the SEC for a Big 10 job is a step backwards and for "my chest pain arrives when the competition heats up" nonhackers. CBJ is a competitor not a quitter. Why in Gods good name would anybody WANT the Michigan job? If you think that Tennessee had high expectations the Wolverines are gonna want a National champion in oh, say, 3 years. And that with a 5 and 7 2014 season. It makes the Florida job look like a JC in oh, say, Maine.
