Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

Go ahead and give the man a raise. In two years, if he's failing, we can look back and realize how stupid the decision was. So far, nothing suggests that he's anything more than mediocre.

You had to hit your head today sounding like that! Take two, goto bed and never login to Volnation again!

LOL. At the posters claiming the story about Butch rejecting the Michigan job being 'fake'. Callahan from 247 ran with it earlier in the day. I doubt he wouldn't have cited the article unless he had a pretty good source. Everyone but the fans seem to realize we have a good coach.

The source is footballscoop.com. Their website ran an unconfirmed article and everybody's citing it, including 247. It's like citing Bleacher Report.

SIAP. From SI.com

Butch Jones, Tennessee coach. Jones is a Michigan native and former coach at Central Michigan and Cincinnati. He won big in both spots and now is in Year 2 of rebuilding Tennessee. He and his staff have been cleaning up in recruiting, and he got a team desperately lacking experienced players bowl eligible against a tough schedule this season. The arrow is pointing up for the Vols so it's hard to imagine why the 46-year-old Jones would walk away from Knoxville.

Who's next? Looking at possibilities for Michigan - College Football - SI.com

Michigan's athletic program is in really bad shape like Tennessee's was in 2012. Michigan is going to be turned down by almost everyone like Tennessee was in 2012.

Question: what program is the winningest program in NCAA history in terms of wins??

Michigan. True their Hail Mary hire may turn them down but not many will turn Down 3-4 million a year. Also Michigan is a breeding ground for talent. Doubt jones is on their top list. There not hiring a guy with 11-13 record.

Harbaugh, art briles, stoops, Todd graham

He must be on their top list, by that article he was asked after Harbaugh.

Good luck with that...Michigan is a train wreck right now...Not many want to put their careers on the line trying to bring that program back to where they were....Sound familiar? :hi:

If a coach is good enough to get that offer this year from Michigan they are probably good enough (or think they are) to get that offer or a better one in the future.

How many better jobs then Cincinnati did Butch Jones turn down in one year before landing in Knoxville?

When it comes to Michigan, who wants to take a job not knowing who your boss is going to be? Michigan has no AD right now. For all the new coach knows they could be working for Mike Hamilton in a few months.

Michigan is a breeding ground for talent? Hardly.

If he left we might as well follow UAB out the door.

Butch is not as big as UT football. Neither was Johnny or Phil. I would not be as concerned about him leaving but highly concerned about those who would be making a decision on his replacement. We have demonstrated incompetence there on multiple occasions.

Why do people keep saying this? Have you paid any attention to the stories that have come out today?

Harbaugh was the first MI contacted. Second? CBJ. I guess that doesn't put him high on their list?

Sources are more than one. 104.5 the zone reported it as well as football scoop.

Your assumptions are baseless and incorrect.

This is just something put out by his agent to garner a raise. PJ Fleck put out the same statement today. There no way Michigan is looking at a guy that has not had a winning season in two years.

Actually CBJ is 61-40. He was a head coach before he came to TN. Good try though.

True, and he won more than last year and is laying the ground work for better things. If you say he's paid to win games and when he improves in that department, how can you still spin it in a negative way??

He's won one significant game in two years. He had "fringe games" this year and lost to Florida and Mizzou. Wins against slightly superior teams are what show improvement.

Yeah, because that 0-6 record against Alabama, Georgia and Florida, Tennessee's three biggest annual games in the SEC, suggests that he's about to bend the college football world over.

Yiu can't just look at the record. It CBJ's fault we lost to Georgia in 2013.

One of the Harbaughs may bite, if Michigan really ponies up. If they're even considering offering John Harbaugh or Les Miles, they'll have to be in the $5M+ range. Harbaugh makes $5M and Miles makes close to $4.5M with bonuses. Now that the dream season is derailed, they might be able to get Dan Mullen for a little less.

Seriously considering Butch doesn't make sense for either side. Talk is just part of the game.

All depends on how you look at it. I see two significant wins and a gutty victory to get bowl-eligible against a team that plays us like their Super Bowl every year, despite us being decimated with injuries and sporting a shapeshift OL.

Not when he's only had 2 years in the rebuilding process and cleaning up the crap Kiffen and Dooley left.

If you want to argue that he's laying the foundation of a team, then fine. What gets me are the people thinking he deserves a raise or credit for his first two years. Butch's best asset is that he knows how to please the right people.
