This thread is getting a lot of attention, so I'm going to add this because this pertains to the majority of responses -
The Vols got a big win on Saturday and as a Florida fan it was hard to watch. (They just replayed it cbs sports south) But my responses here were not making excuses. It was what the players went on record saying.
They also said there were a lot of tears in that locker room after the game and I'm sure you will find amusement in that. (I would)
I'm not making excuses or saying "wait until next year". No, Tennessee earned that game for on the field, and I know you guys will enjoy the hell out of it (as you should)
I said before I will be pulling for Tennessee the rest of the year and I meant it.
So please, beat the hell out of Georgia and pretty please with sugar on top, beat the hell out of Alabama. GBO.
FWIW, I didn't take it as you making excuses, but that you were passing along the info. Kudos, IMHO, to being gracious in defeat and classy after the fact. I've personally eschewed posting on the net after UT/UF games the past few years because I'm not sure I could have handled myself with such grace. Again, Kudos.
And I'm trying to handle a win with equal grace, so please dont see this as me piling on against a defeated Gator team, but...
I question your coach for a couple of reasons.
He seemed to support the trash talk--and even participate in it to a degree--but then turned on his players for doing it when it blew up in his face. He is the HBC. That means being a leader. A leader has them going into the game in the right way, and shielding them after the fact. He threw them under the bus, and did it in a smug way. No bueno, amigo.
It's obvious that he didn't have the tea prepared. It takes no preparation to have a team respond to things going well. But having a team respond to adversity is all about preparation. UF quit.
Whether they got up and then coasted, or tried their best but were bettered, there needs to be vast concerns in G-Ville, FL. Personally, I think the UT game this year exposed some internal rot in your program. Nothing fatal at this point, but definitely something that the staff needs to cut out. I think it'll require some introspection from the staff, and changes there (not necessarily people, but action and process), and it will take changes to the team.
Again... Much respect to you as a poster/fan.
