Actually, my understanding is that Mac's agent is trying to avoid the "fired with cause" language to avoid Mac having to deal with that for his next job. That's part of why they will settle for way less than 12.9 million.
I would be leery of taking a coaching position at Florida after the way they fired MacE. With that interpretation, you would never be allowed to BS or embellish anything!
Typically it's not a good idea to blindside your superiors by embellishing stories about players receiving death threats without proof, when you're responsible for those players, the university has an obligation to keep those players safe.
McElwain's lie rises above fudging an expense report or taking home paper clips from the company's office supply room.
There's no reason for someone to make up death threat claims. You know that stuff happens all the time. UF just didn't want to pay the cash. Sure, he probably didn't prove it to them. CJM strikes me a dude who would rather leave it buried then drag his family through it.
You're telling me UF fans DIDN'T send him death threats? Have you met them?
I have a professional career in the hunting industry and I have received death threats for me and death wishes upon my children from anti-hunters. I laughed them off, so I could see that happening to CJMc and him just blowing it off.
You lost that bet.
I would never laugh off a death threat against my daughter, and shes 28 years old with a license to carry.
Then why on earth would you lessen the value of a death threat on your family opposed to 85 student athletes? Thats ridiculous.
There are death threats and there are DEATH THREATS....have you ever experienced one?
I never placed greater value on one death threat versus another...only said they were different situations.
McElwains obligation to his employer and his players put him in a position to where he has to take death threats seriously. He cant just blow them off.
If you want to blow off a death threat against your family, only your family is potentially affected.

He clarified the next day, at least from my watching the video that he was talking about threats that happened in the past. They let him coach all last week and the game after knowing these facts, as they really didn't have "cause". The fans just have buyer's remorse, some of them like the one you are apparently arguing with goes to very extremes to not only stretch the truth but also disregard a contract to justify their wanting to win so badly.
(suggestion, put them on ignore, chances are your life will be better)
The fact is they didn't have cause, I have seen no evidence that they fired him or he has been fired for cause... the announcement is only a mutual agreement to separate - that came from the school. At this point, anyone with any business experience will tell you that is not a good look for the school as they are forcing out a coach who has a bad record and it still has the perception that they don't want to pay him.
LSU fired Les, they have a contract... LSU should pay the man.
I agree.
As I said, there are death threats and there are DEATH THREATS...
Have you ever experienced one???
Fact is, neither of us knows the details about the so-called death threats....but UF used it as a scape goat to dump Coach Mac with cause so they wouldnt have to pay his buyout. Period. The timing was perfect. Lucky you.
The problem is insane fans and it doesn't matter whether they are from LSU, Florida or Tennessee - go to such extremes all for "winning".
What is strange is, I am defending a Shark man I can't stand.lol: He's a complete ass, but somehow these Florida fans are so extreme that actually make me feel sorry the little shark humper.

The fact that neither of us know the nature and credibility of the death threats is precisely why McElwain got canned, minus $7-8 million less than he should have left Gainesville with.
I can't help it if you don't understand the obligation of someone responsible for 85 scholarship football players versus you not caring about what might very well be a credible against your family.
Ignore a threat against your family and something happens to your kid, you have your wife to answer to.
Ignore a threat against a player and something happens, you have your employer and someone else's family to answer to.
And for the record, I would take any threat against my life or my family's life seriously.
I like Coach Mac and I actually thought he was going to do well at UF, because of how and what he did at CSU. He was phenomenal here. But I was wrong.
Problem is...he was trending up when he left CSU. He was trending down at UF.

I agree. I get what LW is saying, I just dont think (IMO), that the death threat was a serious threat...or Coach Mac wouldve handled it differently. Then he brought it up, and boom...it imploded in his face.
