Maybe they’re all not good enough?

Ok. But we're not talking about losing to Alabama and Georgia. When you lose to GA State, BYU, and get throttled at home against Kentucky, that is NOT a talent gap issue!

Some of it is a talent gap...I saw a youtube video highlight the Vols best plays for the years 2013-2016. At the conclusion, I thought Butch had better players everywhere except OL, as compared to last year's team or this year's team. Butch's players: Offense: QB, Dobbs, no comparison...RB, Hurd and Kamara, no comparison, WR, Jennings (both Jones and Pruitt), Malone, PWill, better than Pruitt's recruits. Defense: Butch's defensive players are much better than Pruitt's with a wash at LB play. Secondary players were Sutton, Gaulding, Kelly, Jr, and Moseley, no comparison, LB, Reeves Maybin, Kirkland, wash, DL, Barnett, Tuttle, Vicars, O'Brien, Lewis, no comparison.

Also, I thought the offensive play calling much better than this year. I just think our current coaching staff is overwhelmingly weak, and I think Pruitt will have to make some staff decisions at the end of the year...(IF he can wait that long )

Please don’t get wrong. We have to remember that we didn’t have all the roster in the world. I’m not saying that CJP is the best but I believe that he’s going to build a great Tennessee teams
I desperately want to believe that. He’s got one more year from me before I turn totally negative

BYU is #9 and just thrashed Boise St at their place. We don't have a better roster than those combined teams. We certainly don't have position coaches worth more than minimum wage.
yes we do have a better roster. BYU is mediocre at best. poverty schedule. might have better coachi g but talent is not even in the same ballpark.

I don't disagree that it is more difficult to rebuild a roster than it was in say Fulmers day.

That being said, if he can't start competing with Alabama and Georgia off the field then they will never compete on the field.

And having more signature losses than signature wins isn't going to help with the recruiting either.

It really is a bit of a catch 22 - you have to win to be able to draw elite talent but it takes elite talent to consistently win. Pruitt has maybe one more year of selling “what we are gonna do” before He has to be able to show recruits what we have done and so far we don’t have anything. Pulling the team together and finishing strong would help

Yea thAt was kind of my point. We really aren’t going to our talent many folks - especially this year - so we can’t play flat and expect to win.

I don’t anymore, at least with what I have seen this year. Qb decisions are the biggest issue but we are A team that lacks fundamentals on the defensive side and we are getting way too many penalties because of a lack of discipline. The last two in year 3 of a program reflect poorly on Pruitt. Hell . All three reflect poorly.

They would have beaten KY easily. I hate BYU, but they're a better team at this point.

What I'm hearing is the upperclassmen are not buying in to what the coaches are selling. Also hearing Chaney and another offensive coach are clashing.
Are you really trying to tell us that the guy(who is supposed to be running the offense)”coordinating the passing game” and the guy “coordinating the run game” Are having philosophical differences and are butting heads? You expect us to believe that the OC, RB coach, QB coach, WR coach, OL coach and TE coach aren’t on the same page? Oh, wait a minute, You’re talking about the Vols, my bad. I thought I was on another site for a sec. carry on.
GBO!!

That is what was especially galling about the GA game.

If they could have just held on for a half of football and won the game that would have been a nice concrete data point that they can hang with the big boys.

Not saying any specific recruit is coming to TN over one single game but he would have been able to make the sales pitch to players of " hey, we just knocked off a top 10 team and with you playing for us we can be even better".

Instead, we are basically in what the hell are they doing mode.

You think so, if fans stop buying tickets and memorabilia, I.e. Hats, jerseys, etc; watch what happens. The fans of UT are the only foundation keeping this s-itshow together. The "care takers" have done absolutely everything possible to kill or create apathy in the fan base by incompetent UT Chancellor hires , AD hires and coaching hires. UT is playing bad football and quitting because that is the standard accepted by those responsible.
Nobody is going to stop buying tickets or merchandise. Tennessee has sucked for ten years and they are still second in the SEC in merchandise sales.

We’ll see if your hopes still stand after tonight’s game.

Sure, but there's a difference between guys you inherit vs guys you recruited yourself. It's not like Pruitt can tell the whole team to "walk" because there wouldn't be enough players.

The “Butch’s players” is the sorriest excuse there is. It’s the same damn excuse used for Butch and I’m sure you’ll use it for Pruitts replacement.

Well then he shouldve went out and got another one...and another one. He should've kept searching until he found a better option. I dont get a sense of urgency from this coach at all and that pisses me off about him.
Yes, no sense of urgency about only the most important position on the field.

What about if we win today? I might start believing again with a solid victory. Plus, I cant stand Felipe Franks.

Don't believe you're getting that victory, but rather what I have been feeling would happen all week.
