Maurer? Portal bound?

Dobbs wasn't even that great of a passer, especially in the 2015 season, and still manged to have a completion percentage north of 60%. Championing JGs completion percentage while he's sitting at a career 32 passing TDs after playing in 32 games, is laughable.
Absolutely! Just seeing those numbers in black and white is mildly depressing :(

Should is a much bigger word than the 6 letters it takes to spell it. Every word of what I argued is true and therefore maybe the problem is as simple as recruiting. Pruitt has his preference of style of offense he wants to run but he’s recruiting qbs that don’t fit that style of play. Therefore imo this may be an ongoing problem. As I said, Tom Brady couldn’t run Lamars game plan.
Pruitt didn't recruit JG.

One thing Maurer and HB have in common is that both showed in HS that they can get the ball out quickly.

IMHO, Pruitt is recruiting the kind of QB that he finds the hardest to defend.

Again.... he didn't recruit JG. I very much doubt he would have.

Josh Dobbs played in 3 more games than JG currently has, and had nearly 4 times as many passing TDs, and 34 rushing TDs. Harping on them having a similar completion percentage is completely ignoring the fact that the Dobbs-led offense actually resulted in scoring, and a JG-led offense does not.

Irrelevant. Stats are stats and numbers don’t lie. JG had a higher YPA this season than Dobbs ever did.

Casey Clausens best YPA was 8.4 in 2001. JGs this year was 8.4.

Regarding Dobbs, I am talking about him as a passer only. Not his rushing abilities.

I agree the best gameplan for JG won’t necessarily be the same as the best for BM. My issue is the “unprepared” term. Every player can prepare himself for whatever gameplan he’s given.

FTR I think BM has potential but is nowhere near ready to start mentally. I wish Shrout had gotten a few more snaps to see more of his in game performance. But I believe the staff had him third behind BM for some reason so I just have to trust that.

Try harder? Martin won a NC and was MUCH better running the ball than JG. I don't think anyone thinks he was a great passing QB but at times he was decent.

Bray as a true Jr... one year less experience than JG... completed almost 60% while throwing 34 TD's and over 3,600 yds. If JG had ever done that... or given a sign that he was capable of doing that... we wouldn't be having these conversations. Starting part time as a true Fr, Bray threw more than twice as many TD's in 3 years than JG has. UT with a QB like Bray last year would have been a 10 win team and would have been among the SEC leaders in scoring.

Ainge in his Jr year had almost 3,000 yds passing and 19 TD's. In his 4th season, he had over 3,500 yds passing and only one less TD than JG has produced in 3 years.

The common denominator with all of these guys... was they could put points on the board. They made plays in the passing game that won games. JG's completion % is meaningless if it doesn't move the O. Lipstick on a pig.

Lol. Martin won a NC?? Please. Everybody with a brain cell knows the defense deserves the bulk of the credit for the NC.

The failure for you and some others to give credit where it is due is laughable. We win JG gets no credit and he sucks. We lose and he gets all the blame and he sucks.

Oh and I guess we shouldn’t even mention the teams that all those other QBs played with. I am sure that doesn’t matter at las right? The talent around a QB means nothing. Just him. So it was Trevor Lawrence’s fault that LSI smoked Clemson right?

I don’t mean this in any way as an argument so no need state any positions. And very few would disagree that BM is or should be “ready” mentally. He’s not. However those cupcake games could’ve made a world of difference if not awarded to JG.

My point with the “unprepared” comment is simply due the difference in playing styles and used the Tom Brady reference as an example. Different playing styles require different game plans. If #1 and #2 are polar opposite of each other the game plan for that week only suits one. The other is (in essence) set up to fail.

And we all know that having a high YPA over the season wins football games; nothing else matters.

Who needs TDs, when you can have high passing efficiency and PFF-rated Big Time Throws™?

So we should start counting 'almost interceptions' as actual interceptions?
I think the discussion was concerning accuracy. A ball that hits the defender in the hands can not be considered an accurate pass. As I have stated several times in multiple posts. Both QBs have shown severe weaknesses this season. Making a lightning quick bad decision is just as bad as making a slow good decision. Both usually result in the same thing.

And JG threw two actual interceptions, one which was immediately taken in for a TD. So what's your point?
I know you hate actual stats, so here is an interesting one:

Jarrett Guarantano throws an interception 2.025% of the times he throws a pass. Your favorite QB throws an interception 6.667% per attempt. Accuracy, decision making and recklessness were why he was 2nd string. Other than that, he was the better choice.

Nice work. Wish there was an easy way to see the percentage of passes deflected. Seems like Maurer had as many interceptions dropped as he had caught.

We do not want BM to leave, he was a true freshman this season and played like one which was on par with a JR. That should scare everyone.

Betting that HB is going to come in and be the next Trevor Lawrence is setting yourself up for a huge disappointment. A full off season in the program will do wonders for BM and he could very well be the starter next season.

Imo Bailey will be a good qb, not great but good. I base this on his lack of mobility. For example lsu and clemson both with very good ol. Their qb had to make many plays because the pocket broke down. I'm not sure Bailey can do this; he would have been sacked multiple times in that game. If given time to throw I think he will be very good. I just happen to favor duel threat qb and would like to see how holiday is on passing.

My main concern is he is south of 50-50 on completions and TD/INT ratio. He has the tools for certain; doesn't apply them well at times.

Maurer’s issue is just a lack of snaps to feel comfortable. He was too high strung in his limited playing time. I believe he will settle down if he is not yanked after every incomplete pass or questionable decision. JG was given more of a leash.

I think maurer could be great, or has the potential to be great.

Lol favorite QB....

And of course, having a low interception ratio, is all that matters, right?

Trevor Lawrence must be punching himself in the face for throwing an interception on 3.38% of his passes. It's a wonder that they even made the CFNCG with those numbers.

Maurer couldnt win the starting job out right. If he could have, he would have been the starter. JG consistently played better in practice. The coaches got to see more from Maurer than any of us. They picked JG as the man for a reason. Its really that simple.

Actually Maurer didd beat jg out, and imo would still be starting qb if he had not got injured. He did not look like the same player after the injury. After the injury jg gave us the best chance to win. Before the injury Maurer did.

Please tell me one aspect of Brian Maurer's game that marks him as a superstar. He is inaccurate, takes careless risks with his body. You ignore any real stats for your purpose. If I was comparing Jarrett Guarantano to Trevor Lawrence, then the argument would be strange; but since Trevor Lawrence doesn't play for UT, I really don't see how the comparison between their stats is intelligent. It is a known fact that you despise JG, so a logical discussion is impossible, thus this is all I will discuss with you.

Because according to practice reports jg got all of the 1st string snaps.
The practice reports cover about 10% of the practice that the media is allowed to see. Do you have an inside source that watches the field once the media is escorted off?

Feel free to quote me where I said "Brian Maurer is a superstar".

Given what we saw of him this season, he has a higher ceiling than JG given that JG plateaued last season.
