Matt Cambell Interviewed (RUMOR)

Excellent candidate. I just don't see how we get past the buyout issue.

If we are offering $7mil+/yr for Gruden then hiring a coach from Iowa State shouldn't be an issue.

If Matt Campbell is earning $1.2mil/yr then we could triple his salary AND payoff the buyout with that "Gruden" money.

Please NO, NO and NO! Looked like Jones 2.0! MAC coach of the year ... Toledo! Had to google! Please NO'

Except he's winning in a power 5 conference. Beating Oklahoma and TCU. And doing it at a program that historically has been dog ****.

If you had to Google him, you clearly don't follow college football

How many coaches out there took out two top 5 opponents in one season? That’s remarkable; even more so with an ISU roster. If this is true, it’s a sign Currie is in it to win it.

Purdue is still fighting for bowl eligibility in week 13 (5-6).... If we’re gonna hire a 6-6 Big 10 coach we might as well have kept Butch.

Did you see Campbell’s record from last year, his first at Iowa st?

I’d take brohm over Campbell any day, just wish we had better candidates to choose from because we deserve someone with more, long term P5 success than these 2 options.

Campbell sounds like a guy who's a pretty good coach but wouldn't have enough anything (experience, staff, recruiting) to compete with SEC dogs.

Tell me a coach other than Urban Meyer that’s beat two top 5 teams in the same month with a 3RD STRING QB. I’ll wait

Costs $9 million to play at Coach Campbell's poker table. Given past practices, I highly doubt we're going there.

Brohm's agent? Maybe. Purdue is subpar in terms of talent and the last several years demonstrate the point.

The season Brohm is having playing Big 10 football with MAC-level talent reminds me of the one Kiffin had here in 2009 when the talent level could barely be called SEC-worthy.

Some good coaching going on there. How well he develops off of a good start, however, remains to be seen. I remember Wade Houston doing something similar in hoops for us in 1989. The things he was able to accomplish with Ian Lockhart (Rarely-played by Devoe) were amazing. But he was never able to build on the positives from that first season.

Really, 10-13 in Power 5 is winning to you?
:thud:

Yet he beats Oklahoma in year 2. Recall him beating some P5's at Toledo also. This guy can coach.

Who is he? I thought we didn't want someone you had to google to find out about?

If you're on this site, there's an assumption that you are a fanatic, which means we assume you know the P5 coaches, at least. Campbell is a very hot name in college football.

And has lost 4 games to other teams - so he won two big ones has lost loses to teams he should have been able to beat.

I am amazed that some still hang their hat to the "flavor of the day" when almost none of them pans out.

So make a rash decision to hire a coach who beat a couple good teams? He may end up being good, but let’s slow the roll til he has ISU competing for a championship

If you had to google him at this point in the season then you are not paying attention to anything outside the SEC. I don't have him on my short list but his work with Iowa State has been stellar this year. He has beaten more top 5 teams this year than we have beaten since Jones came onboard and did he this with a walk-on quarterback.

I just gotta shake my head at Campbell haters. Yes, his record was bad last year, but he took over arguably the 2nd worst team in one of the top 2 conferences in america, and beat 2 of the best teams in america in his 2nd year. I may add he won some pretty big games at Toledo also, beating a ranked sec west team, something Butch couldn't do in 5 years. He is 10 times the candidate that Brohm is, much more upside and a better developer of talent

Matt Campbell is a terrific young coach. Would love to have him but the buyout could be a real barrier. He would turn the Vols around quickly if one of the big money boys would cut Iowa State the required check. He would be in my top tier along with Mullen.

Apparently Matt Campbell isn't ready for the big stage and is to much of a gamble but paying an ESPN analyst who has been out of coaching for nearly a decade 8 figures a year to save our program is totally fine? I love VN Lol
