Massacre at Virginia Tech

i'm tellin u rt now that other schools are going to have to either close completely or close certain buildings due to idiots and sicko's calling in w/ threats, or some other idiot might decide he will do the same thing that this guy did. sickening

Yeah...I was thinking earlier that there will likely be some copycats out there.

If they are going to do something, they should just do us a favor and commit suicide first.

Agreed. And it's already happening

I am still completely mystified by the two hour time difference. There are reports online that students at the dorm saw police with guns drawn searching after the initial shooting at 7:15 a.m. But then he pops up again two hours later at a classroom building? How are they not on total lockdown at that point if they are looking for him but can't find him?

Yeah, there have been police and firemen around campus since the news about VT broke out, lets hope there are no more threats or violence today.

I know right? That VT security has ALOT of explaining to do.

Idiots in charge. That is how it happened.

I don't want to jump to conclusions but you have to think that they had in place a plan to deal with this. I mean any campus security force will have something together with local police after Columbine and I'm sure that it called for a lockdown until they either found the suspect or cleared the campus.

I fear we are going to find that someone in the critical chain of communication of leadership was simply out of pocket at the time -- doctor's appointment, sick, vacation, running an errand. There has got to be some reason the plan was not set in motion.

Students complained that there were no public-address announcements or other warnings on campus after the first burst of gunfire. They said the first word they received from the university was an e-mail more than two hours into the rampage — around the time the gunman struck again.

Inexcusable

I have a son looking to move from a local JUCO to a 4 year institution, Va. Tech is off the list due to the administration's handling of this matter.

What a sad sad day in Blacksburg I couldn't even imagine if my child attended V Tech how I would feel right now. Why did this guy do this is something we will never know, people are demented and sick. My heart goes out to the families.

Am out of there VN. Will follow today's story and hope all turns out for some of the folks you have kids that attend VT. Pray they don't receive bad news today.

Yes, and one guy (the shooter) WITHOUT a gun and maybe there'd be no tragedy.

As you already know, the problem with this theory is not many criminals are going to turn in their guns when they become illegal. Only people who obey the laws will have to wrestle with that.

the problem with this theory is you assume if guns are outlawed, ammunition won't be.

Or have a tax slapped on it so that it's $500 a bullet or something.

I understand that the guns are out there, and getting rid of the ones that are out there would be problematic. And my knee-jerk reaction to something like this is not really to take people's rights away. But at some point this country is going to have to take a long hard look at itself, and figure out what we can do to limit these people's access to weapons.

Making guns illegal is not the answer and is as bright of an Idea as deep sea diving without a bell.....

Guns are illegal in England.....Funny thing is every criminal there has one

Making guns illegal only affects 1 group of citizens...The law abiding ones
