And this is the thing that really irratates me about the news media when something tragic like this happens they're more concerned about being 1st on the scene, trying to beat anther station to the punch, than getting the information out, especially when they're worried family and friends out there whether their loved one are safe.
You severly underestimate the use of email as a communication tool by college students today. I check my mail pretty much continuously throughout the day, and most students now have phones with email/texting/instant messaging, or blackberrys/palm pilots, and many use them, or laptops with wireless internet in class. There was a shooting and they notified people via . . . e-mail??
I know I said that we could hold off on the gun debate sure to grow out of this, but just had to note that on Drudge it says that Bush's spokeman announced that Bush extended his sympathies to the people of Virginia and that he believes in the Second Amendment but that all laws should be followed.
Ok, great thought there Mr. Prez. And nice to see the defense already getting lines up. I'm reading that the guy did reload and went from dorm to classroom and that he was looking for his girlfried. May even have been a student there. Obviously, not dealing wiht a rational individual. You can bet your last dollar that there will be a HUGE gun debate come out of this and that if he owned the gun legally there's going to be some real push for reform, at least in ?Va.
That was topped only by the person telling that story by them saying they weren't "alarmed" by the thought of a gunman on campus.
Can you imagine being the parent of a student at Va. Tech. and not able to get them on the phone right now?
