Everyone always thinks the new guy is better. Lane may be better but Poole is a good SEC back with a 1,000 yard season under his belt. Lane is a freshman with 37 yards total for his career. Get real people.
the lone time he didn't ended up in a safety.

Stats don't reflect second effort. Had Poole given it, it might have prevented a safety. Lane gave it, and it resulted in a touchdown.
Poole reminded me of Jamal Lewis in his final season, going down on first contact every time. Lane fought like a mad dog for every inch.
Is obviously our #1 RB with Neal and Smith sharing the 2 spot. I'm off the Poole train...for now. Tauren can be the best back this year but I didnt see a Travis Stephens like effort from him tonight.
I know you're a big Poole fan and use his stats to back you up, but there is no way that you watched last night and came away thinking he's a good first option. Missed many running lanes and ran over our own guys over and over. He's solid at the very best and closer to decent. The meaningless run when the game was over helped those statistics dramatically. I don't remember any single player all night that he made miss and at some point, that's his main job.Poole avg'd 4.1 ypc. The rest were under 4. He had one play go for negative yardage.
And... he got those 2-5 yd runs that Jason complained he didn't get last year.
MT sold out to stop the run. Their DL played run gaps, slants, etc. Their LB's played tight to the LOS. They had 8/9 in the box much of the night and had their safeties flying up in run support when they didn't.
I am not sure the coaches didn't want to let MT get away with it to challenge UT's run game. They had a comfortable lead early. The pass game could have turned it into an absolute massacre. If they had abused them more in the deep middle... the running lanes would have opened up.
It's obvious that it didn't show in the stats, but it's there. Every time Lane got the ball, I felt like he'd get 5+ yards. I never felt that way with Poole.

Good grief. Wow. I am very excited about Lane but stuff like this is just ridiculous.
Just watched the replay. Poole's primary hole was completely plugged up on the safety. Before he could even start to make a backside cut, Bullard's guy cut him down. Bullard was completely and totally abused on that play. In fact, almost the whole OL was pushed back into the end zone.
But I am sure that's only because Poole didn't give the second effort you expect, huh?

Then you probably need to go watch the replay.I don't remember any single player all night that he made miss and at some point, that's his main job

He didn't play well. No one associated with UT's run game played well last night. MT sold out to stop the run but UT should still be able to get push and yardage. They didn't.
No. I am not ready to draw that conclusion and especially considering that Lane who I think very highly of did even less.
Then you probably need to go watch the replay.
I do not know why he didn't bust some plays outside when nothing was there inside. He did last year but for some reason didn't this game. Is he doing that on his own or is he being coached that way? I don't know but either way he needs to go back to what made him much better than "solid at the very best" by running to daylight.
Lane just has more of that "it" factor. You can just see it when he runs.

I saw alligator arms & mediocre running behind a weak o-line with Lane. Poole had poor blocking as well. Not sure what "it" factor you saw with Lane that was better than what Poole was doing.

Heck were you watching? Poole is still running up linemen's back for no apparent reason. His 20 yard run had one really good cut on it(which was the first one). Lane is going to end up being our back come the Florida game. Poole got some okay blocking at times and he missed the holes a lot of times. If he had hit the holes that were there at times maybe the line would've blocked a bit different. Our line could never get in a good rhythm.
