Glad your feelings and what happened on the field were exact opposites :eek:lol:, sirius tho, Lane looked good, our o-line and 9 guys in the box is what hindered RB play. Pool still popped off a 28 yd td (shoulda been at least)

Poole got the ball for a 28 yard carry, didn't see Lane do that. Lane has skills but they stacked the box in the first half which made it tough for both running backs. It was very hard to run on them, so we shredded them in the air. I wouldn't put much into our running game being uneffective tonight, just opened it up for the Bray-Rogers-Hunter show. Once teams realize they have to stop that then the running game will be more efffective.

Finally a sensible post. All of these people talking about the #'s and using that as their basis of who is a better running back, are laughable. I guess they have pocket protectors, and live in their mother's basement and proclaim, one is better than the other becuase the #'s support it! What a joke. Watch Lane move with the ball and you can see who is the better runner. Oh, but the #'s don't support it! Because football is played on paper, right???

Also took Poole his 23 rd carry to get that run. Lane had 11 total carries.

Btw, I'm not saying Lane should be the #1 back. But I do think he should continue to gradually get more carries as the season progresses.

Montana was stacking the line of scrimmage daring the vols to throw against wannabe-island corners. I think that dare was taken and then some with some early toast in the first quarter.

With that said the o-line to a man were missing assignments all over the field. I lost count of how many defenders were allowed to go cross the face of a backside blocker. That's o-line 101, step across and move your feet -- somehow this was overwhelming for our kids. Good way to get a RB or QB killed in SEC play.

look Montana's only chance was to prevent the running game so who was the obvious choice? Poole. Not the freshman. I think everyone should just chill and take it easy. We have some work to do before Florida but be happy we secured a solid win and we saw what areas need to be tweaked. GO VOLS!

The big problem was the O-line tonight. There was absolutely no push. That being said, I thought Poole was very tentative hitting the holes. He did a horrible job protecting the football in the first half. I expect better from a senior. He's still my starter though. Lane has a lot to learn, but I thought the young man was impressive, tonight!

I don't know why we even have to have this debate.

It is clear to me that Dooley will play the best back on any given day.

So let's just have the best back play.

Typical Poole game. He's a good back. Am thinking its ok to have more than one good back. I think the Grizz were showing schemes the o-line was unfamiliar with. At lease one lineman mentioned that post game. Great opportunity to work on adjustments.

Explain to me where 24 - 98 4+ yds per carry is << 10 - 35 3.5 ypc ???

Lane is going to be a good one (what happened to Raijon Neal in the off-season??), but Poole will carry the load well this year. Let's hope the O-line steps up a gear this week.
