Manning linked to HGH by Documentary (key witness has recanted)

So now the Huffington Post is trying to extend the story to be about Peytons wife receiving HGH and then of cource giving it to Peyton. If they can't make that stick then it was some guy that lived within 10 miles of Peyton having a prescription for HGH so Peyton had to be involved.

I think it's pretty sad that things like this happen to Peyton. It seems like he's been given a hard time throughout his career. Whether it be him not winning the Heisman, some questioning his legitimacy as one of the greatest QB's ever, or junk like this, I just think it's a shame. I can't think of anyone who's played the game for so long and held such a high standard for himself, both on and off the field. I can't think of anyone I'd rather have serving as the face of our football program than Peyton Manning. And who knows, maybe he'll still get the last laugh before his playing career ends. Either way, I'm glad he was and still is a VFL and I will always be a fan of his. Go Peyton and go VOLS!!!

Lol... Why would I have sour grapes or need to "win"?

What I mean is that if the story ends up being false, it will be because they went with a story they shouldn't have and won't have anything to do with this goofy fantasy that Al Jazeera is bad because they showed OBL videos 10 years ago therefore they must be a terrorist organization.

I don't know why you would have sour grapes. But I recognize 'em when I see 'em.

Smells like a payoff.

Not sure what is meant by this but Sly tried to recant his surreptitiously recorded claims as soon as he discovered they were going to become a matter of public record - not after he had time to be offered 'a payoff'. This smells like either Al Jazeera didn't properly vet a significant source or didn't care that he was lying.

Nah. I gave up winning in the football forum about 10 years ago.

Fair enough. I guess I'm just having a hard time understanding your point. Because it seems like you're saying something like, "Okay, I was wrong and you were right. But you weren't right for the reasons I perceived that you were saying you were right, so it doesn't count."

But I'm sure you'll say that you're not saying that. And we'll be back to square one. So I'll let you have the last word, because I feel like maybe I'm being kind of a jerk about it at this point.

I think it is a pretty simple concept

He conveyed that he believes some number of people will harbor denial about the legitimacy of the article based off the name of the news source. That some people will deem it "Muslim sounding" and discredit it based off xenophobic tendencies that have no basis in fact or reality.

And as such, you can arrive at the correct conclusion, but via the wrong reasoning.

Mr. Sly told ESPN’s Chris Mortenson that he was purposely dropping famous names and giving false information to Mr. Collins in order to “determine whether this guy was legitimate or just trying to steal some knowledge about the business.”

Mr. Sly said he was a pharmacy intern in 2013 at the Guyer Institute in Indianapolis, where Mr. Manning received treatment for an injury in 2011. The Al Jazeera report identifies Mr. Sly as a pharmacist.

“When I was there, I had never seen the Mannings ever. They were not even living there at that time,” Mr. Sly said. “Someone who worked there said they had been there before. That was the extent of any knowledge I had. I feel badly. I never saw any files. This is just amazing that it reached this point.”

My God I feel so bad for Peyton. ESPN needs to make this their headline instead of just saying HE is denying it.

and people think that Arab rag is a credible source :eek:lol:

Statement from Dr Guyer

“I have no reason to believe these allegations are based in fact or have any truth. In fact, I can say with absolute certainty they are not. I find it extremely disturbing that the source of Al Jazeera’s story, a former unpaid intern named Charles Sly, would violate the privacy of Mrs. Manning’s medical records and be so callous and destructive as to purposely fabricate and spread stories that are simply not true.

“I would emphasize that Mr. Sly was never an employee of the Guyer Institute and his brief three-month internship occurred in 2013 during which time Peyton was not even being treated or present in the office. I think it is obvious that Mr. Sly has fabricated this whole thing for reasons I cannot fathom. I am proud to have treated Peyton and helped him through his rehabilitation. Mr. Manning is one of the most honorable and upstanding individuals I have had the pleasure of knowing.”

...my conclusions were reached on my own observations.

And anyone who watches Fox News can say the same thing. Unless you are saying you don't watch any news programs and actually travel all around the world and see every event in person. I'd say you are told what to think and don't even know it.

Again, I've never argued that the story was accurate or that Al Jazeera was right to report the story. All I've argued is that it's wrong to automatically discount the source because it's Arab based or run by predominantly people of the Muslim faith.

Yeah, but there is a real chicken/egg problem with that if you think about it

His quote is confusing

Is he saying that Peyton's wife did in fact receive HGH?

I am not sure how anyone can have their medical records "violated" unless that part is true

Some things change but some things shouldn't.

As a journalist (foreign correspondent) back in the 50s and 60s, nothing was supposed to go public without at least 2 sources. Whether that is generally honored in the present, it obviously wasn't in this case. Anyone at al Jazeera, HuffPo or any other outlet putting this in the public domain needs to be given his/her walking papers, forthwith.

I think he is saying she was a patient but not when Sly was there..so that means Sly stole records or talked to employees about her...both violations
