Mac > PC

If Mac's were owned by the majority of the public and PC was not, PC would be greater. Why?? Because people would make things to attack the Mac on a regular basis, just like they do PC now. It's honestly about percentages here. Most Mac users don't know that they are essentially running a version of a Linux kernel, that one company with money has chosen to support.

So much truth

I know very little about computers but one of good buddies who knows quite a bit has told me pretty much the same thing.

DING DING DING!!! We have a winner!
However, if you do multimedia, a Mac is the way to go. A PC just can't compare in that particular area. But for everything else, Mac is behind. There's a reason Microsoft has such a huge market share.

Both have their pro's and con's, really comes down to your personal opinion. I think the PC is better for what I use it for, but doesnt mean that it is necessarily any better than the Mac. Pretty much the reason that their is a market for both. Its like arguing which is better, the 360 or the PS3, it will never end.

I build my own computers and you simply can't do that with a Mac, at least not in a cost effective way. Used Mac parts are expensive and new components are simply ridiculous.

sure, I could build a PC then use an emulator to run a Mac OS, but that would be like building an AC Cobra and then putting a 1st Gen. Hyundai engine under the hood.

If you don't know anything about computers and don't want to, macs are great. If you have to actually have some customizability and be able to run noncommercial programs, basically work in science, macs are just an extra headache.
Pretty much right... Mac is a better option for the majority of the public.

lol, you're welcome. homebrewed software is written for PC.
Ubuntu*

Nothing beats a Toshiba.

Familiar, yes. But I've found that Mac OS works much, much better for most. I still run Windows 7 ultimate because I like playing around with Solidworks and Apple doesn't support any decent design options, but after selling computers to the public for a few years now and seeing how they're using them, most of them would be better off saving up and buying Apple.

one thing is apparent, Mac users are as smug, if not more so, than Prius drivers.

I've had my share of PC headaches too, believe me. Doesn't matter though, because I can't run the programs I need to run on a Mac.

Yes you can. I still run all my business software on Windows 7 on my macbook pro.
