Love Barnes 2nd half was on him

You can cut the patronizing. I never said he coached well tonight. He was outcoached and the team was outplayed. But if you say Rick Barnes is a "fraud" to anyone who knows a thing about college basketball, you're going to get laughed at, deservedly so
@rockytophigh That was needlessly aggressive, I apologize for that. I was frustrated with the loss and got too worked up responding to you and a few other. Sorry

What in the ever loving hell did we just watch? Inexcusable. Find SOMEONE to make a pass to a teammate.

Wow sorry coaching effort and attempt in 2nd half...
He's only able to do so much as a coach. There are times when your shots aren't falling...which is quite often with this team...so there has to be something else you go to when things aren't going your way. There's just something not right with this team. They seem soft. There's no real fight in them. When they're on, they relax and go on cruise control. They just get going and it snowballs on a lesser opponent. When they face better teams who have the ability and will to get up in their faces and try going toe to toe with them, our guys seem to have no answer. It's almost like they don't have that mental and physical toughness to fight through adversity and it seems to be universal up and down the roster. We simply have no alpha like Grant or Admiral to set the tone. We have very nice athletes, but we really don't seem to have an identity. Not sure I can describe it any other way. Hate saying they don't have "character", but I don't know how else to put it. They don't have that drive/will/determination that truly elite teams have. Enjoy what they're capable of, but be realistic about what they are.

Last night wasn't about how good a coach you think Barnes is or isn't. It's the fact that he didn't coach. He just sat there on his ass with our best player on the bench and no times out used till the game was blown.

The issue I have is their inability to handle the "zone" defense...This is a legitimate issue and you either have to "shoot them out of it" or make the play at the free throw line. This hasn't changed in all the years of basketball and has been coached since most kids started playing basketball. I get that not everybody employs a zone defense but you have to at least be prepared for it. If you can drill getting out of a "trapping/press" defense a simple zone look should be no different. Its even worse when your players miss the open look at the free throw stripe constantly or your player is hesitant to take it. That is ALL on coaching and not having your team prepared. It was shown early in the season that the zone was one of UT's issues and it has not gotten any better. If a team wants to beat UT all they need to do is get in the zone or get in their grill.

That's hilarious given time and time again we've seen Barnes greatly outcoach better teams while here.

Yeah, like the way he has coached the team on how to break the zone press.

He has beaten teams on his defense alone, not his offensive brilliance. Kermit's defensive coaching tonight was superior to Barnes' offense, no question.

The team was coached to expect to see everything that was thrown at them last night. It failed to take.

This team has tremendous potential, but loses its way on offense sometimes. Bama, UF, & this 4th Q. Doesn't really have a vocal leader that puts team on back and demands execution sometimes.

Barnes has more Elite 8s and Final Fours than TN has had in it’s entire history. He also has a higher winning percentage while at TN than TN has had historically. He has been to more NCAA tournaments in his coaching career than TN has been to in its history.

He also doubled the number of NCAAT's that Texas had ever been to. Took Clemson to three consecutive NCAAT's for the first time ever and a #2 ranking. Clemson has only been to 5 NCAAT's and one SS since RB left in 1998. Took Providence to NCAAT 3 out of 6 years, and they only did it again 3 more times from 1994-2013 when Ed Cooley started a run.

But, hey, he gets paid too much.

His inability to put his team into a better situation to handle the half court trap is inexcusable imo. Earn your freaking paycheck.
Their problems weren't coaching but sloppy play. I know for a fact they practice hard against a press. Their problems were after entering the front court.

Our backcourt is slow, we lack a true point guard and our front court lacks length. Vesovi has a nice set shot, but lacks quickness in breaking any ones press. James is an enigma in a way. You want to see him be more aggressive offensively, but he often seems passive with the ball. I don't see a true point guard out there. Perhaps having a taller front court we could have thrown over the press. Also, having a guard with quickness and great handles can break the Ole Miss press (I know a year away). I would say Coach Barnes knows this one is on him. Give Ole Miss coach the nod for implementing that zone press. Now we're exposed, how will we respond next time this occurs? It will occur when a team has as good of a back court as Ole Miss does.

That may be true, but after it happened about the 3rd time you have to make some kind of adjustment. Maybe they're too stupid to implement what the coaches wanted, but my goodnesss watching it happen over and over was like the '99 Florida game when Fulmer/Sanders refused to put a TE on Alex Brown and he just kept getting sacks.

If they make their free throws, make layups, handle the ball, don’t drive into traps, oh and he used everyone that he actually trust to do this. Yep piss poor coaching all the way... wait...Last but not least but damn him for them not being able to throw it in the ocean.

Barnes doesn’t seem very energetic and often has the look of “can’t figure it out.”

I thought from the title that Barnes came out and said the loss was on him. Then I realized you were just stating your opinion and Barnes once again threw his team under the bus.

Heard Rob Lewis discussing this yesterday, said fans were always mad Butch didn’t take blame and put it on players, Pruitt comes in and literally always puts all blame on himself and fans hated that too...ultimately if you lose fans are going to b!tch no matter what, and if you win they aren’t going to say much.
