Love Barnes 2nd half was on him

Absolutely on the coach. But if the guys would have made 1 more free throw or 1 more field goal when they went like 1-17 over 12 minutes, his game would have been at the very least in Overtime

Players need to nut up and take responsiblity. Sure it's ultimately Barne's but not one of them stepped up and they all sucked ass.

720 wins....

Again, realistically, who are we hiring that’s better than Barnes?
I doubt we can, but we ought to expect our team (coach and players) to be able to adjust to something as simple as a zone defense. It literally threw us for a loop.....and we did nothing in response.

nah...the main difference between this team (which is more talented) and the team from two years ago is simple. That team had a mentality to win and drive themselves to that win. This team sort of looks around wondering which of them will do it. James should lead this team...but he is not like AS or GW. If he can become that kind of guy, this team has huge potential. James never plays angry...we need angry James.

You think heupel is a bad hire considering the circumstances of our football program? What a stupid statement. Barnes hasn’t done anything in the ncaa tournament for 6 years. We got to the sweet 16. That’s it.

Heuepel was a very underwhelming hire considering the other names that was available.

Replacing a HF coach with over 700 wins at a place like Tennessee will not be an easy task no matter how bad you hate Barne’s coaching.

And a man with the coaching experience Barnes has should be able to easily adjust to that D. Instead we did the same thing repeatedly, even after calling a TO.

I’m not calling for him to be fired, yet. But he better show some improvement. We’ve looked like crap for 4-5 games in a row if you take out the Kansas game. Need to end the season strong and do decent in the tourney. We have too much talent to be looking like this.

He's certainly not a great hire. Anyone dressing him up other than anything than a meh are just setting themselves up for the same cycle we've had the past 12 years. Was he good for the circumstances? Maybe but that still equals meh.

That was my point. Anybody hoping for a home run hire considering the circumstances are unrealistic. To crap on Danny white for making that hire is dumb.

Barnes is a great coach but this year's team isn't playing near their potential, not yet anyways

Barnes is blowing chunks this year. To have this team 1 game above .500 in conference play is a disgrace.

Love seeing SV pick up his dribble 10 straight times in a triple team, right after crossing half court. Dude sucks at PG.
Too many lefties on this team. They brick so HARD!

Wasn't just him; how many guys also just let the other team take the ball away from them?

I agree the trap thing is on him. Free throw shooting, however is on the players. Our guys get sweaty hands whenever they go to the line.

They played exactly like they weren’t prepared. They threw the ball side to side, exactly what OM wants you to do other that turn it other. Tennessee never attacked over the trap. Never ran anyone to the spot.

Well, my dad was a basketball coach for 43 years, and the dean of Nashville coaches. I've been to more games than you've been to the bathroom. If your team isn't adapting to zone defense, which you've obviously coached them to, you bring them in and calm them down to adjust. This was a poorly coached 2nd half....
You can cut the patronizing. I never said he coached well tonight. He was outcoached and the team was outplayed. But if you say Rick Barnes is a "fraud" to anyone who knows a thing about college basketball, you're going to get laughed at, deservedly so

If you look at his whole time here, it's hard to say these lapses are on him. He hasn't forgotten how to coach, and he's not changed his philosophy. But this group cannot gel and are definitely not performing to their ratings.

Sure, but we have looked like crap in all our games ever if you just take out the wins. Why shrink your sample?

Yep. I am 100% certain Barnes knew they would run a half court trap and they worked on it in practice. They did run one nice set against it at the end where Johnson got an open three. So obviously they were taught what to do. They just didn’t do it for some reason.

We never adjusted to their half court trapping defense, even after a TO.......,I like Barnes, always have, but that is on the coach.......Why did we not adjust? Pons being out with foul problems was an issue for us down the stretch, but why didn't we adjust to the trap? Incredibly frustrating!!!!

Funny how people forget how bad our program was yesrs ago. I understand we’ve had a taste of success and want more.

Wrong, we’ve lost to good teams before while playing well. Dumb point. However, losing to Florida by nearly 30 points is ridiculous. Losing by 20 to a Missouri’s team we beat by 20 is ridiculous.

No adjustments whatsoever. And Kermit deployed the zone at the perfect time...out-coached tonight
So true. Ole Miss put the 1-3-1 half court trap on us, and we were totally unprepared for it. Acted like we had never seen one before. Multiple turnovers up top, and Barnes did nothing different to attack it. Pathetic. Kermit was better with inferior players.
