Lots went wrong but #2 is QB1 [JG discussion, merged]

We'll just have to respectfully disagree. So, you think a guy with little experience, a propensity to throw INT, a guy who can't make the pre-snap reads and decisions as well as JG would have been able to pass for over 400 yds and not turn the ball over. I'm not knocking Mauer, but he would not have won that game. It took the best QB performance by a Vol QB in over a decade to win that game. Right now, we only have one QB to turn to.

I was one of JGs most vocal supporters to start the season and even when 95% of the team was against him during the season.

All I am saying is lay off Maurer. He is a great runner, makes big plays and I would argue he may be more consistent than JG through the course of the season. That's nothing against JG there are many things he does better than Maurer.

JG had an awesome game and he will be the starter vs Vandy. Well deserved. But Maurer is just as able imo.

Gonna throw for 500 yards next week against the commondoors...there’s no stoping him now!

I am so freakin happy we won, but I would in no way say Guarantano silenced his critics. He played his tail off tonight, but there were still too many plays where he overshot receivers and held on to the ball too long. But GBO, we going bowling!!!

This is where Volnation makes me want to pull my hair out. He throws for over 400 yards on a top 10 defense in the nation, and people say he had "too many" bad plays. Just smh.

Deserved not deserves.

One is past tense.

He’s had a decent stretch since Bama.

Sounds good......but when you add.....”every bit he’s received”.......that means what he has received lately as well.......or am I missing something?

Agree I’ve been critical too. But one thing we all fail to realize is the kid has played for 3 different OC. Probably why he struggled so much in beginning. Pretty much what happen to J hurts at Alabama.
I agree. Chaney stated that he threw the entire playbook at JG at the beginning of the year. It was more than he could handle. I think Chaney would admit that was his mistake. We probably win those first two games if the offense had not be overloaded with the playbook. Tonight was Chaney's best game by far. Great game plan and great play calling to go with great execution.

JG was crisp. Decisive, and accurate all game long, not to mention three receivers with over 100 yds catching. And kudos to the line for holding up to give him time.

I never jumped on the anti 2 bus, hated the shots he was taking in a lot of places, and I am ashamed that I did not publicly stand up for him this year. Tonite he never lost his composure, overcame lots of long yardage situations, mostly not of his own doing, and could have had over 500 yards easily except for a number of deep passes that COULD have been caught, not should have been necessarily should have been caught due coverage and contact.... not to mention the yards that showed up in the penalty column. Gutsy guy and I am thankful he could stomach some of the treatment he received and hope he comes back next year, though he has to be wondering to himself. He made some bad decisions and did not always execute, but not enogh to justify a lot of the shots I heard and read...

Does it really matter?

He stunk the first half of the season. He deserved to be blasted.

He is playing really well now. He deserves to be praised.

That’s all.

What I don’t understand is the short term memories, and the stick it to your fellow fans that noticed that JG stunk for 3 years. Short memories is a fandom thing, I suppose.

Florida State when they inevitably hire Butch Jones

I don’t “pull” for Florida State, but I don’t dislike Florida State either...I think because of that whole the enemy of my enemy is my friend thing or it could be because we waxed that ass in the Championship, but I don’t wish that on FSU. Arkansas....sure...wreck that program for all I care.

The result of holding the ball too long is a sack. I saw one. Did he miss a couple throws, yes. OMFG he’s human. Get over yourself. JG played a great game. Best I’ve seen from a Vol QB in a few years. First time in school history with THREE 100 yard receivers. Eighth 400 yard game in school history. He did it against a really good defense. Yes, without question he silenced his critics with his play over the last 4 games. Tonight he cut out there tongue!!!
Apparently there was one critic he didn't silence.

Lol

You were the one that came back with the “past tense” stuff.

Heck I wasn’t high on him at all, but once I figured out what else Tennessee had......I was cool.

Just saying he “still” gets criticized while helping Tennessee to win several in a row.....even today.

I agree, but people forget that Dobbs went 31-34 for 350 yds with 2 TDS and 0 INTs with 60 yards rushing in a game. people don’t remember it because we lost the the game, but that is the only game I’ve seen that rivaled Tee vs South Carolina. Dobbs also absolutely destroyed South Carolina his junior year.
That’s not to take away from what JG did tonight, but Dobbs had some games that were unreal.

I totally would have typed guarantano instead of number 2 (text to talk) but you know Bourbon.

We ran it well enough. Jordan averaged something like 5.8 ypc and we had 111 yards on the ground. Have to score more than 24 points when you have almost 600 yards of offense+ penalties from them. This should not have been a game in doubt.
And he got benched for fumbling. 111 yards on the ground is rather average.

Yeah I’d like Florida to have to work for a win at the end of each year. I know Butch beat them once but ya know, blind squirrel and all that

I saw a little in the real time game thread where things are fluid.

Where else?

It baffles me tho that he can't hit a guy out in the flat :p
Drew Lock had the same problem and he's playing on Sundays. I'll take accuracy on those 20-30 yd. lasers over the tosses in the flat any day. I'll bet they work on those throws in the flat and get that corrected. It's not as easy as some think because you have to deliver the ball without floating it so the back has time to look upfield and make the first tackler miss.
