Lots went wrong but #2 is QB1 [JG discussion, merged]

I believe his locker room demeanor changed dramatically after he got benched and pulled the stunt at Bama. That made the other guys be more all in with him.

He is what he is, still throws the ball too late at times and still holds onto it too long. But he doesn't turn it over, (though he fumbles too much) and he trusts his receivers down the field way more than earlier in the season. That trust has allowed him to blossom in the last few games. I think he may he running more of the called plays vs checkdowns or changing the play.

Best hope, he keeps improving and we don't have to start Bailey next season. It's going to be a prove it situation though. He's had very good games in the past and then looked really bad in the next game. The most important thing we need to do more is score. Hopefully he can break the 30 point curse vs Vandy and in a bowl game.

I am so freakin happy we won, but I would in no way say Guarantano silenced his critics. He played his tail off tonight, but there were still too many plays where he overshot receivers and held on to the ball too long. But GBO, we going bowling!!!
Please show me one QB that completes every pass and always makes the right read. Even Peyton missed receivers.

More that anything else, I'm impressed by and happy to see the mental fortitude JG has shown. He's an ongoing work in progress and I'm sure he would agree - e.g., his dump pass 5 yards behind the scrimmage that set up the back to be clobbered (not unlike Maurer's pass to Callaway) would best been thrown out of bounds - one of several examples. I suspect he'll keep getting better; I also suspect we'll see a few more "missed opportunities."

But it takes special character to go through the hate that has been thrown his way, and to live through some horrendous decisions on the field - and not throw in the towel and melt. He picked himself up, went back to work, shut out the noise, answered the call.

I'm super impressed with the young man, and glad he is a Vol. I'd bet his character will take him far in life.

I don't think it can be overstated how important it is to play in the same system for long enough. This is his fourth OC. When a QB understands what is going on you can see how much more decisive they are. Early in the year JG was late on everything, reads, throws, and pocket feel. Against Missouri he was just the opposite. When the QB KNOWS and has confidence in what he is supposed to do then everything happens on time. It's a beautiful thing. If JG can spend the off-season learning to throw a swing pass he can make some $$ next year.
