Staley made an ass of herself when she proclaimed, "There's something wrong with people who don't believe as I do".
There's something wrong with anyone who would say something that stupid.

Lets get the facts straight about this alleged quote:

The Freedom From Religion Foundation is calling constitutional misconduct on University of South Carolina basketball head coach Dawn Staley for her recent comments denigrating nonbelievers.

In her conversation with ESPN reporter Holly Rowe courtside Sunday following her team’s victory over Oregon State, Staley said that there is something “wrong” with those who don’t believe in God: “If you don’t believe in God, something is wrong with you. Seriously!”

Kinda curious how the "I am against whatever Dawn Staley says or does" ethos shown by many on this board sits with her being a devout Christian who publicly expresses those beliefs. A conundrum I suppose....

Not denying Geno's best all time women's coach/recruiter & greatness but the conference they play in is auto cupcake wins. You can just chalk up wins and have glorified practice scrimmages players rested up by time March madness but they did & have won the most Natties.
Correct, exactly why I don't count his alltime record, regular season and tourney. There are 2 schools of thought about playing a tough regular season schedule:

1. The tough competition wears a team down

2. the tough competition prepares a team for the March competition.

But as the old saying goes, "all a coach can do is beat the teams that show up."

All you said is true and I think that's why UConn wants to play UT after conference games startup in the season, to really see where they are. UT was a middle of the pack SEC team last year that IMO over preformed in NCAAs So UT beat UConn with one of the best UCONN teams that went on the win a Natty. So a loss to a middle of the pack SEC team tells me if you play a SEC schedule year in and year out, you are going to have hiccups more so than the big least, thus the W total goes down. But like I said their mode has brought them Natties and stacked Ws which entices players to play in that environment everyone wants to play for winners , and so far he has done a great job with that formula, so nothing but kudos. UCONN can/are proud.

True, but they have a lot to do with which teams show up. Pat sought out the best teams available to play and beat almost all of them.

Exactly LV fans regarding Pat are just as bad as Alabama fans were regarding Bear Bryant. Both were great coaches in their time but the LVs havent won a Nattie since 2008 so that means most HS recruits this year weren't alive the last time they won it all.

Pat did not invent womens bb, she wasn't responsible for it becoming an Olympic sport and she's not the greatest coach of alltime . Check her head to head record against Geno, their number of NCs and their alltime NCAA tourney record.

She is the female equivalent of Arnold Palmer. Arnie didnt invent the game but he sure as heck was responsible for it becoming popular with the masses and he is not the greatest golfer of alltime. Pat is to Geno as Arnold is to Nicklaus.
Pat died. Geno is coaching well past the age at which she died. Had she lived, Geno would not have caught her.

You are probably right about that. However, he had 10 national championships by age 60 and she had 8 by age 60 when she stepped down. I am all for giving credit where credit is due. They are/were legends and what they both accomplished and in his case is still accomplishing will never be duplicated.

The difference being that I don't belittle folks who don't believe in what I believe in.
You didn’t belittle Staley? Let me dig up that quote real quick for a double check:

There's something wrong with anyone who would say something that stupid.
… it’s your conscious, boo.

Think about what Pat could have done with Rae, Jordy, Rikea etc. I believe she would have been past 8 natties, potentially decreasing UConn championships. Unfortunately we will never know.
Not to be all gloom and doom. Our amazing researchers move closer and closer to finding treatments/cure for so many horrible diseases!

I cede that he has had a better winning record but he also has had 13 more years to pad that record and to surpass all of Pats accomplishments. GOD only knows how many more wins he would have been behind her if she had not suffered from her illness. That is lucky for him and sad for the rest of us. The start he got with Rebecca Lobo gave him a quick boost up. Lucky bum!!!!! BUT, at least he kept it up and never settled for second best ever.
Geno was at UConn for several years before he signed Lobo. His first Final Four even came before her. If you recall, he was in the Final Four in '91 where Pat and the LVs won their third title against a Virginia team featuring Dawn Staley. Lobo came in the next season, but they didn't contend again until her junior year. Geno won his first natty in his 10th season.

The most impressive turnaround of a bottom-feeder program definitely belongs to Dawn Staley at South Carolina. What she has built there after starting from the bottom is so incredible that if anyone had told me 20 years ago that South Carolina women's basketball would eventually win national championships I would have instantly felt sorry for that person for having whatever mental illness they had that made them delusional.

But here we are!

We said the same about Wooden and Geno passed him. Maybe not in our time , but somebody could pass Geno too. NIL makes it alot tougher.

I think South Carolina has competition when it comes to bottom feeder programs that became championship contenders...UCONN! Uconn was so bottom of the barrel that they played in a leaky field house that housed all sports and Geno's office was basically a closet!

Dawn had to fight from the bottom all the way to the top of the SEC. Winning enough games in the SEC to even get an opportunity to make it into post-season play was a bit more of a task for her than it was for Arisma to get his team to the top of whatever weak conference they were playing in at that time.

Any program can make it to the top quick now . All you have to have are a couple big donors or one mega donor. Ucon doesn't invest much in other non revenue sports therefore have more revenue sharing money that goes to basketball. Basketball you only need 2 or 3 stars and couple of good players to compete. Texas Tech has a mega donor that is trying to pay for all the bigger teams players to compete for championships. Football and softball seem to be the most important to him. If you're lucky enough to have the donors to pay NIL for your specific sport you can get the players needed. Coaches have to get to know these donors and entice them into funding their players.

You gotta understand there's not enough hatred towards the other teams and Head Coaches in this forum. The Football, Baseball and Men's Basketball forums spew the hatred for opposing SEC teams and their Head Coaches... Different scenario in this one , there's mutual respect and hugging of other teams...yes, I know it's hard to adapt to...😆😆

The old big east was very good and he not only got to the top of the big east, but started winning national championships. I also admire Dawn for what she's done there...quite amazing, really.
