Boy, I am glad that I am not the only person who understands this. Good post.I might also add that in my 20+ years of coaching, I saw quite a lot of staff changes. The head coach had his core group he knew he could count on. Every so often this big name guy would come in all full of himself, new ideas, all that. Every time all it did was disrupt the unity we had on staff and end up with him leaving at the end of the year. Coaches are by nature, creatures of habit. They love continuity. If DeBord gives that to Butch, fine by me.

I think that Butch knows his offense will work with the right personnel , AND some experience after the bowl game performance. The extra practices, and getting some players healthy was the ticket I think.
The easiest way to mess it up is to bring in a new guy, who wants to make changes. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If Debord needs a little time to be brought up to speed, I feel sure that could be accomplished. Not his first rodeo.
I am quite sure Coach DeBord knows and has forgotten more about the game than 99.97% of the regular poster here. This isn't breaking the warp speed barrier. It's football. He will be fine in whatever role CBJ want him in. One of the best coaches I was ever privileged to work around was in his 70s. Sharp as a tack and knew more about all of the current schemes than anyone around. Folks want splash and glitz and glamour. I want a coach who wants to be here and can help us keep moving forward. To many are hung up on names rather than brains.

Well said sir. The young are constantly trying to reinvent the wheel so that is cooler. In the end it is still just a wheel whether it is on a 2014 SRT Viper or on a 1973 Dodge Dart. It rolls.
I'd say that's 99.97% true because 99.97% of us didn't choose to go into that profession.
It will roll faster on the Viper. I have owned two 340 Dart GTS's (1968 and 69), and while plenty fast, they were not Vipers. I have a friend who bought a new Viper in the last couple or three years, and he took me for a very fast spin. Impressive!

A positive about Debord is that since he is oldER, and not a hot OC hire like the guy from TCU is that we do not have to worry about NFL or Michigan beating down the door to want to hire jim after 3 years he will be a john Chavis and stay at a school for 7-10 years IF he is good.
I think he was supposed to be AD in waiting until the hoke fiasco. I remember reading that somewhere.
